The Beneteau Antares 32 is the twin-engine derivative of the Antares 30 flybridge, built from about 2011 to 2015 on the 30's 10.22 m hull but fitted with a pair of 200 hp Nanni diesels, twin shafts and rudders, and about 108 gallons of fuel.

Best for
  • Short-handed crews in tight marinas
  • Owners who want a get-home engine
  • Coastal weekend cruising for four
  • European-based buyers with Nanni support nearby

What makes an Antares 32 an Antares 32

Searches for the Antares 32 are few, and so are the boats, which is exactly why it pays to understand what you are looking at. Beneteau's 2014 inventory list treats the Antares 30 and Antares 32 as one document: the same 10.22 m (33 ft 6 in) length including platform, the same 9.98 m hull, the same 3.39 m beam, layout and flybridge. The difference is in the engine room. The Antares 30 uses a single large diesel on one shaft, while the 32 has two 200 hp Nanni T4 diesels on twin shafts with four-blade propellers and twin underhung stainless rudders.

YachtBuyer dates Antares 32 production to 2011 to 2015, and Beneteau still lists it on its heritage site in the Antares inboard range alongside the Antares 42. Its listed light displacement is 5,555 kg, about 425 kg more than the single-engine Antares 30, and its draft rises slightly to 1.05 m.

Why Beneteau offered twins on a 33 footer

Beneteau's own description of the 32 is blunt: twin engines offer greater safety and better maneuverability. On a small flybridge with high windage, that matters. MBY's test of the single-engine Antares 30 found the boat pushed around by only a light breeze in a crowded marina and called the bow thruster essential. With two shafts and two rudders, the 32 can be walked sideways and spun with the throttles, which reduces dependence on the thruster and gives a get-home engine if one diesel quits offshore.

The cost is complexity and weight. Total installed power is 400 hp, barely more than the 380 hp single engine that MBY tested in the 30, while the boat is heavier and has two of everything to service: engines, shafts, seals, props and rudders. Do not expect the 32 to be faster than its single-engine sister. Buy it for redundancy and docking confidence, not for speed.

Fuel capacity: two numbers in Beneteau's paperwork

Beneteau's documents are not consistent on fuel. The specification table on the heritage page and in the 2014 inventory gives 410 liters (108 US gallons) for the Antares 32 against 375 liters for the single-engine 30. The engine section of the same 2014 list describes a 440 liter (116 US gallon) aluminum fuel tank for the 32. The difference is small in practice, but it is worth sounding the tank or checking the builder's plate if range calculations matter to you.

Either way, the 32 shares the 30's main limitation: this is a coastal cruiser with a small fuel load. Two diesels at cruise will burn fuel faster than one large engine at the same speed in most installations, so plan legs conservatively until you have logged real consumption on your own boat. Water capacity is 145 liters (38 US gallons) and the holding tank is 88 liters.

Living aboard: two cabins and a bright wheelhouse

Inside, the 32 follows the Antares 30 exactly. The U-shaped saloon converts into a double, a three-leaf sliding glass door opens to the cockpit, and the helm has a bolster seat and a carbon-look dash with room for electronics. The galley sits opposite the saloon with a laminated worktop, stainless sink, gas hob and oven, a cutlery drawer, a 65 liter fridge and a space for a microwave. Beneteau specified walnut joinery and sand-colored upholstery as standard.

Forward, the owner's cabin has a 1.98 m by 1.4 m central bed on lifting struts with storage underneath. Its guest cabin keeps two bunks, and the top one folds up out of the way by day. With the saloon converted, six can sleep aboard for a night or two, though four is the number that works for a week. One heads compartment with a marine toilet, washbasin, shower and an opening hull port serves everyone.

Flybridge, foredeck and cockpit storage

Beneteau calls the 32's flybridge huge for the boat's size. It carries a driving position and a second saloon whose seating, together with the pilot seat, converts into a sun lounger. Dual flybridge controls with space for electronics were optional, so check whether a given boat actually has an upper helm. A large forward sun lounger was also on the options list.

The cockpit has a large storage locker, and the CE rating is category B for eight people. The grey-hulled classic finish Beneteau describes on its heritage page gives the boat a smarter look than the white hulls of earlier Antares models, and Beneteau's feature list includes a Raymarine electronics pack.

Living with the Nanni diesels

Nanni is a French marine engine company, and its diesels are well supported in Europe but less common in American yards than Volvo Penta, Yanmar or Cummins. Before buying an Antares 32 in the US, find the nearest Nanni service dealer, confirm parts availability for the T4 engines and ask a mechanic who knows them to attend the survey. In Europe this is rarely a problem.

Ask for service records for both engines, because a twin installation where one engine has been neglected undermines the whole point of the boat. Check that both run at similar temperatures and reach rated rpm under load, that the engine mounts and shaft alignment are good on both sides and that the starting batteries, two 50 amp hour units in Beneteau's 2014 list, have been replaced sensibly.

Antares 32 or Antares 30, and what to pay

Choose the 32 if you dock often in tight marinas without help, cruise alone or want a second engine for peace of mind. Choose the 30 if you value simplicity, lower running costs and more choice on the used market. Both give the same accommodation and the same seakeeping hull that MBY praised on the single-engine boat.

An Antares 32 for sale is a rare find. Expect prices broadly between $90,000 and $165,000 depending on year, engine hours and equipment, with a small premium over a comparable Antares 30. Running costs are a little higher than the single-engine boat because there are two engines, two shafts and two sets of running gear to maintain.

How much does a Beneteau Antares 32 cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$90K to $165K
Yearly running costs$11K to $21K

The Antares 32 was built in far smaller numbers than the single-engine Antares 30, so comparable sales are thin and most boats are in Europe. Twin engines usually add a modest premium over an equivalent Antares 30, but only if both Nanni diesels have documented servicing and dealer support nearby. Factor in shipping, duty and 220 volt conversion for a US purchase.

Our verdict on the Beneteau Antares 32

The Antares 32 answers one question the Antares 30 could not: what happens if the engine stops, or if the wind pins you against the dock. Two 200 hp Nanni diesels on shafts give redundancy and better handling in close quarters, while the proven hull, bright wheelhouse, two cabins and generous flybridge stay the same. It is heavier, not faster, and Nanni support is the key question for American owners. For a short-handed crew who wants a small diesel flybridge with a backup engine, a well-kept Antares 32 is a sensible and uncommon find.

Beneteau Antares 32 questions answered

How does the Antares 32 differ from the Antares 30?

The 32 uses the same 10.22 m hull and layout but has twin 200 hp Nanni diesels on two shafts instead of one 370 or 380 hp diesel. It is about 425 kg heavier and carries slightly more fuel.

What engines are in the Beneteau Antares 32?

Two Nanni T4 diesels of 200 hp each, driving twin shafts with four-blade propellers.

When was the Antares 32 built?

YachtBuyer lists production from 2011 to 2015, and Beneteau's 2014 inventory documents it alongside the Antares 30.

How much fuel does the Antares 32 carry?

Beneteau's specification tables list 410 liters (108 US gallons), while the engine section of its 2014 list mentions a 440 liter (116 gallon) aluminum tank.

How fast is the Antares 32?

Beneteau did not publish figures and we found no independent test. With 400 hp in a heavier boat, it should not be expected to beat the single-engine Antares 30's tested 26 knots.
