The Galeon 560 Fly and Yachting's first Innovation Award

When Yachting presented its first Innovation Award in 2024, it went to the Galeon 560 Fly. Galeon's US brand manager Bob Burke called the boat the evolution of the last eight years of what Galeon had been doing, and that is a fair summary: fold-down terraces, a galley that opens to the outside, glass inserts in the bulwarks and a beam carried far forward all come together in one 58-foot package.

The 560 Fly made its debut at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show and replaced the 550 Fly, filling the gap between the 500 Fly and the 640 Fly. MBY's sea trial headline called it the best Galeon flybridge you can buy. It remains in production in 2026, sold in the US through MarineMax.

Twenty-two feet wide at anchor

With both terraces down, the 15-foot 10-inch beam grows to about 22 feet. PMY pointed out that this made the 560 only a foot narrower than the new Viking 90 at the same Miami show. What sets the 560 apart is how the terraces join the interior. To port, a large window slides open above the galley counter, a flip-up section meets the terrace and two removable swivel stools turn it into a bar. To starboard, a seat with a reversible back faces in or out and a fold-out table makes a breakfast nook.

Both terraces have glazed soles, so you can see the water below, and with underwater lights on at night fish gather under your feet. When the terraces are raised, the glass panels still give a view out from the cockpit and saloon. Rails clip into the outer edges for families with children.

A squared-off bow and a social flybridge

The profile is burly rather than sleek, with a dark wraparound visor and a bow that is nearly plumb and squared off at the tip. PMY noted the bow lounge borrows ideas from Galeon's bowriders, and the flattened tip gives more standing room forward and makes bow-in docking easier.

Up top, the helm has twin Raymarine screens and a seat back that flips to become part of the dining settee behind it. A second settee, loungers, a grill and a full wet bar complete the flybridge, with glass panels set into stainless rails for an unobstructed view. Overhead clearance with the mast up is about 22 feet 6 inches, worth checking against any fixed bridges on your home waters.

Staterooms, a showpiece master head and a real crew cabin

Below, the 560 has three staterooms and two heads. The full-beam master amidships has a wavy headboard in matte eucalyptus and faux suede, matchbooked veneers, a desk and vanity under the hull window and a large TV. Its head is the showpiece: a hull window runs the full length of the compartment, even into the walk-in shower, which has 6 feet 6 inches of headroom. The VIP forward benefits from the beam carried forward, and the guest cabin's inboard berth can slide to make a double.

Aft, the lazarette can be fitted as a crew cabin with over-and-under berths, a wet head, a sink, a fridge, a microwave and a washer-dryer, plus a watertight door to the engine room. BoatTest found the engine room better than usual for the class, with 4 feet 5 inches of headroom, 2 feet 4 inches between the engines and a 17 kW generator aft.

  • Master: full beam, desk and vanity, full-length hull window in the head
  • VIP: forepeak with en suite access
  • Guest: sliding inboard berth for twin or double use
  • Crew: bunk cabin with head, washer-dryer and engine room door

D11-725 or D13-900: what the numbers say

BoatTest tested a 560 Fly with the standard twin 725 hp Volvo D11s on shafts at about 57,900 pounds. It topped out at 29.4 knots at 2,500 rpm burning 78 gph, and its best cruise came at 2,200 rpm: 23.5 knots on 55 gph, for about 223 nautical miles with a 10 percent reserve. Slow to 8.3 knots and burn falls to 6.3 gph, which stretches range toward 700 miles. Noise peaked at 78 dBA.

PMY quoted 29 knots top and a 24-knot cruise for the D11s, and 33 knots top with a 28-knot cruise for the optional twin 900 hp D13s. MBY's 2024 sea trial used D13s on V-drives and quoted 30 to 32 knots. For US buyers who cover distance, the D13-900 is the package to want: it keeps the boat at a comfortable cruise with a full load, and it is the engine on most premium-priced listings.

What a 560 Fly costs to buy and run

MBY put UK prices from 1.37 million pounds before tax, with a typical delivered boat around 2 million pounds including VAT once options such as a Seakeeper 9, exotic veneers and metallic hull paint are added. In the US, expect roughly $1.9 million to $2.6 million new. The first boats are already reselling: a 2024 Florida boat with D13-900s, 180 engine hours, a Seakeeper 9 and dynamic positioning was listed at $2.495 million.

Budget around $100,000 to $175,000 a year to run one in the US, excluding depreciation. A 60-foot slip, insurance, twin D11 or D13 services, a 17 kW generator, Seakeeper maintenance, terrace hydraulics, bottom paint and a part-time captain dominate. At about 55 gph at a 23-knot cruise, fuel is a real line item.

Galeon 560 Fly or the older 560 Skydeck?

Searches for a Galeon 560 often turn up the 560 Skydeck, a different boat built from 2014 to 2023. It is a sportbridge, with a low upper helm under an electrically operated carbon fiber cover, an aft galley and three staterooms, on a 58-foot 1-inch hull shared in length with the 550 Fly. A 2019 example was listed at $1.15 million in 2024.

To tell them apart: the 560 Fly has a full flybridge, a squared, near-plumb bow and glass-floored terraces, while the 560 Skydeck has a sleek coupe profile with a compact top deck. The Skydeck is roughly half the price, but it lacks the 560 Fly's galley bar and glass-floored terraces.

Our verdict on the Galeon 560 Fly

The Galeon 560 Fly is the most complete expression of Galeon's ideas so far. The terraces, galley bar and glass floors turn a 58-footer into a boat that hosts like something much larger, the master head is genuinely memorable, and the crew cabin and engine room are better than most in the class. It is heavy and thirsty at speed, and well-optioned boats cost far more than the base price suggests. Specify the D13-900s and a Seakeeper, and it earns its award: an innovative, well-built family flybridge with a real case against the British and Italian establishment.
