Where the Ferretti 592 sits in the 590 lineage

Searches for the Ferretti 592 usually come from buyers comparing three boats with almost the same name and almost the same length. Ferretti's 60-foot flybridge evolved through the 590, the 591 and finally the 592, each about 18.33 meters, or 60 feet 2 inches, overall. The 592 is the last and most modern of them. Power and Motoryacht previewed it in Ancona for its September 2008 issue, and it won the design prize for flybridges up to 24 meters at the 2008 World Yachts Trophies.

What makes it different is who drew it. Studio Zuccon International Project designed the superstructure and the interior, while Ferretti's own engineering division handled the hand-laid fiberglass hull and all the systems. The bottom is a slightly modified version of the warped-plane hull used on the 591. It was in turn the starting point for the next model: when Ferretti launched the 61-foot 7-inch 620 around 2010, Yachting reported that its hull was a lengthened 592.

Telling a 590, 591 and 592 apart on the dock

All three share the same overall length and 17-foot 3-inch beam, so do not rely on a tape measure. The quickest tells are styling, layout and engines.

  • Ferretti 590 (tested by Power and Motoryacht in 2003): curvy styling, cherry joinery, galley down, three cabins with an athwartships queen in the master, twin 1,050 hp MAN D2840 LE diesels, 34 knots maximum per Ferretti
  • Ferretti 591 (current in 2006): four cabins, MAN V10-1100 or V8-900, 27,000 kg unladen, 3,500 liters of fuel, 32 to 34 knots predicted
  • Ferretti 592 (from 2008): Zuccon superstructure with very large rectangular hull windows in the master, three cabins and three heads, 3,700 liters of fuel, 28,300 kg unladen, 24-volt house systems

Zuccon's lines and those 36 by 46-inch windows

The 592 looks lean for a 60-foot flybridge. The radar arch follows the boat's lines instead of standing tall, and 316 stainless stanchions bend forward and outboard at a uniform height above the deck. The master's hull windows measure 36 by 46 inches, each with two ten-inch opening ports, made from 20-millimeter stratified polycarbonate and certified by RINA for strength. Ferretti even claimed they were bulletproof. They were part of the hull-window race between Ferretti and Azimut in the late 2000s.

Power and Motoryacht flagged two practical consequences of the low arch. It sits only 1 foot 9 inches above the flybridge windshield, so the radar beam passes close to anyone standing at the helm, and the radome is far enough aft that the bow can mask objects directly ahead. On a used boat, consider whether a previous owner has raised or relocated the radar.

Inside: linen divans, a freestanding stair and three cabins

The salon has a white-linen divan to each side under oversized windows, with the galley down and aft. An oversized pass-through window links the galley to the salon, and a freestanding staircase without a handrail connects the levels; Power and Motoryacht warned it could be tricky in a seaway. White oak veneer warms both elements without fuss.

Below are three cabins with three heads, according to current brokerage listings, with the master amidships behind those big windows. Crew quarters are aft. If you need four sleeping cabins, the older 591 offered them, at the cost of a smaller master.

MAN V8 or V10, and how the hull behaves

Ferretti offered two MAN engines. The V8-900 CRM gave a predicted 30.5 knots top, 26 knots cruise and 340 nautical miles of range. The V10-1100 CR raised that to 33.5 knots top, 30 knots cruise and 320 nautical miles. Both figures are Ferretti's prediction data at its standard test load, and most boats on the market have the V10s.

On the test boat Power and Motoryacht found the hull smooth with no noticeable roll on any heading in 2 to 3-foot swells, even without the optional gyro stabilizer. At 30 mph and 2,000 rpm it heeled gently into four to five boat-length circles, tightening to three boat lengths at 1,500 rpm. The BCS hydraulic steering felt slower than the tester liked, but ZF electronic controls made throttle-only maneuvering precise and smooth.

Equipment came from the group's shared supply chain: Kohler generator, Condaria air conditioning and Groco strainers, with pumps and refrigeration running on 24 volts. For a US owner that standardization helps, since the same parts appear on many other Ferretti Group boats of the era. Ferretti's own ARG gyro stabilizers were listed as an option.

Owning a 592 today

These boats are now 16 to 18 years old, so condition matters far more than model year. Expect asking prices from about $550,000 to $820,000 in the US in 2026. The MAN V10 is a well-proven common-rail engine, but by now many boats need injector, aftercooler and exhaust elbow attention, plus updated electronics; the original GenNav and Raymarine fit is obsolete.

Most 592s were sold into Europe, so many boats you find online lie in Croatia, Italy or Greece. Importing one to the US means budgeting for transport, duty and conversion of the 230-volt, 50-hertz electrics, or at least a large isolation transformer, which narrows the price gap with US-lying boats. A careful pre-purchase survey, oil analysis on both engines and a sea trial at full load are essential at this age.

No independent fuel curve has been published for the 592, so budget from comparable 2,200 hp 60-footers. With dockage, insurance, engine and generator servicing, bottom work and canvas, an owner-run 592 typically costs $80,000 to $140,000 a year before any refit.

How much does a Ferretti 592 cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$550K to $820K
Yearly running costs$80K to $140K

European brokers have recently asked about 600,000 to 635,000 euros for 2008 and 2010 boats with MAN V10s, which converts to roughly $650,000 to $700,000. US-lying boats are scarcer and price on engine hours, generator condition and electronics age. A V10 boat with documented MAN service and updated electronics sits at the top of the range; a high-hour V8 boat needing upholstery and canvas sits at the bottom.

Our verdict on the Ferretti 592

The Ferretti 592 is the best-looking and most refined of Ferretti's 60-foot trio, with a smooth hull, honest V10 performance and a master cabin whose windows still impress. Its quirks, from the low radar to the open staircase and dated electronics, are all fixable. Buy on condition and documentation rather than on year, make sure the listing really is a 592, and it remains a sensible way into an Italian flybridge for well under a million dollars.
