The Ferretti 550, the 'small one' that restarted a range
Ferretti's head of sales referred to the Ferretti 550 as 'the small one' when PMY asked about it in early 2015. By then the brand had been absent from the 50 to 60 foot class for about five years, focusing on yachts of 65 feet and up. The 550, with an all-new hull, was meant to bring owners into the Ferretti family earlier in their boating lives. It made its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2015 with four hulls already sold, and its American debut at the Fort Lauderdale show that November.
YachtBuyer lists production from 2015 to 2022. The 550 was the entry model until the smaller 450 arrived in 2016, and Trade Only reported eight sold worldwide within months of launch. Its successors today are the Ferretti 500 below and the Ferretti 580, which MBY said slots between the 550 and the 670 when it debuted in 2023.
Searchers for the Ferretti 550 or a Ferretti 550 2019 will find most used boats from 2016 to 2020 on the US East Coast, often sold through Allied Marine, Ferretti Group's American dealer.

A sober profile and a walk-through bow lounge
Ferretti's own description of the styling was 'sober', and MBY agreed it was restrained, even lacking a little visual punch. The Studio Zuccon International Project drew a long uninterrupted band of saloon glazing, three frameless hull windows a side and a small flybridge set well aft, its overhang shading the cockpit. PMY liked a gentle downward curve in the sheer that improves the view out of the saloon.
The bow is where the 550 punched above its size. Ahead of the windshield sits a settee with a folding, stowable table, blended into a large sunpad. PMY said that use of space compared well with boats up to 75 feet. The flybridge has a U-shaped settee, a wet bar and a sunpad ahead of the helm, with a hardtop as an option; the twin helm seat backrest flips to seat two more at the table.
Galley aft, helm to port and a low brow
Inside, Ferretti's familiar galley-aft plan puts a U-shaped galley with a four-burner Siemens electric cooktop and oven at the back of the saloon, opening through a three-panel sliding glass door to the cockpit, with refrigeration in a credenza opposite. A wooden floor at the aft end, MBY noted, keeps wet feet off the carpet. Forward and up a step, a U-shaped settee to starboard faces a pop-up TV to port, and the helm sits to port with three Simrad displays on PMY's boat.
PMY's tester found the windshield brow so low that at first it felt as if someone had pulled his cap over his eyes, though he stopped noticing once under way. Yachting praised the helm ergonomics in general: Ferretti's double-F wheel has looked the same for over 20 years, and the shifters and thruster toggles fall to the right hand below and the left hand above to ease docking.
Three lower-deck plans, including an Asian karaoke version
The standard plan has a full-beam master amidships with 76.5 inches of headroom, a desk, a two-seat dinette by the hull window and walk-in wardrobes, plus an en suite with a tiled shower. MBY highlighted that full standing headroom continues all the way around the bed. The VIP is forward, and a guest cabin with twin berths sits to port. In the two-head layout the guest cabins share a head with a cylindrical sliding shower enclosure.
Owners could instead order a third head en suite to the VIP, losing a desk, some hanging space and a laundry locker. MBY also reported an Asian version that swaps cabins for a galley-down layout and a large meeting or karaoke room. All versions can have a single-berth crew cabin in the aft locker, which has standing headroom and on many US boats is used as storage.
Cummins on shafts, and what PMY measured
Ferretti launched the 550 with one engine package, twin 715 hp Cummins QSM11 diesels on conventional shafts and rudders, rather than pods, which PMY welcomed. Ferretti quoted 30 knots flat out and a cruise in the mid-20s.
PMY tested hull number 12 off Cesenatica on the Adriatic with eight aboard and about half fuel. It reached 28.7 knots at 2,450 rpm burning 74.5 gph, with a range of 229 nautical miles at that speed. At 2,000 rpm the boat made 20.7 knots on 45.4 gph for 271 nautical miles, and at 1,000 rpm it trickled along at 8.9 knots on 7.8 gph for 678 nautical miles. The tester praised the throttle response, smooth cornering and tracking in 2 to 3 foot seas.
Note the gap in the curve: fuel burn rises steeply from 45 gph at 21 knots to 75 gph at nearly 29 knots, so most owners settle around 20 to 24 knots.
Engine room access and the later MAN engines
PMY found a stoop-height engine room with 21 inches between the Cummins and 29 inches above them, airy for a 55-footer, with a pair of alloy fuel tanks outboard. The test boat's generator was a 7 kW Cummins Onan, small for US use with air conditioning, so check what any particular boat carries.
Later boats moved to MAN power. Builder data published on YachtBuyer lists MAN I6-730 and I6-800 engines, and the 2018 boat Yachting featured in 2026 had MAN 800s of about 776 hp and cruised at 26 knots. MAN service is well established in South Florida but thinner elsewhere than Cummins, worth weighing if you cruise far from Miami.
Used Ferretti 550 values in 2026
Expect asking prices from about $880,000 for an early Cummins boat to about $1.45 million for a late, well-equipped one. Yachting's 2026 brokerage feature on a 2018 boat with a Seakeeper, replaced pumps and 1,650 hours at $1.255 million is a useful benchmark. YachtBuyer data shows long average listing times of about 631 days and average reductions of 5.5 percent, so buyers have room to negotiate.
Annual running costs for a US owner are typically $70,000 to $130,000 excluding depreciation, depending on slip, captain and hours. Because the 550 was replaced by models with standard stabilization and newer styling, condition and equipment matter more than age within its seven-year run.

How much does a Ferretti Yachts 550 cost?
In January 2026 Yachting featured a 2018 Ferretti 550 with upgraded MAN 800 engines, a Seakeeper and 1,650 hours listed by Allied Marine in Miami at $1.255 million, and YachtBuyer's market data showed a ten-year-old boat around $1.3 million. YachtBuyer also found eight 550s listed over three years with an average of 631 days on the market, so pricing is negotiable. Stabilizer, hardtop, three-head layout, engine hours and US commissioning drive the spread.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Ferretti Yachts 550
The Ferretti 550 is the boat that taught Ferretti how to build a convincing owner-operator flybridge again. It feels designed for its footprint rather than shrunk or stretched, as PMY put it, and the bow lounge, full-headroom master and simple shaft installation still compare well with newer rivals. Its weaknesses are a low windshield brow, a thirsty top end and plain styling, and some boats were delivered with less equipment than Americans expect. A stabilized, air-conditioned boat from 2018 or later, with documented engine service, is the one to buy, and at today's prices it undercuts a new 580 by a wide margin.
