The Azimut 48, or 48 Fly, is a 48 ft 11 in flybridge cruiser built from about 2010 to 2014 with twin 600 hp Cummins QSC 8.3 diesels, three cabins and a claimed 32-knot top speed. Used boats ask roughly $380,000 to $560,000.

Best for
  • Owners who cruise with two other couples
  • Buyers who want a lower-profile flybridge
  • East Coast and Bahamas owner-operators
  • Value hunters who prefer shafts over pods

The Azimut 48 in the family tree

The Azimut 48 is the flybridge that bridged two very different Azimuts. It followed the three-cabin 47 of 2006 and kept its guest-friendly idea of an owner's cabin forward with two guest cabins amidships, then gave way in 2014 to the much taller, full-beam-master Azimut 50. YachtBuyer dates it from 2010 to 2014, and Azimut's own description says it was developed and built at the Avigliana yard near Turin.

Today you find it listed as the Azimut 48, the 48 Fly or simply a 48 Azimut flybridge. It is one of the less-documented Azimuts: we found no full magazine sea trial with a fuel curve, so this guide relies on Azimut's published data, YachtBuyer's specifications and real listings. Where a number is a builder claim, we say so.

Trapezoid windows and a squared-off bow

Stefano Righini's exterior is recognizable by the trapezoidal hull windows amidships, which light both guest cabins and give the 48 a different look from the shark-fin glazing of earlier Azimuts. The superstructure windows carry the design language of the period, and Azimut described the overall effect as giving an impression of movement even when the boat is tied up.

The foredeck is wide and squared off, partly to make room for a sunbathing area and partly to increase the volume of the owner's cabin below. Azimut used the same squared-bow idea on the 53 of 2009 and the later 54, and it explains why the 48 feels roomier forward than older Azimuts of similar length.

Inside Carlo Galeazzi's linear interior

Carlo Galeazzi designed a linear, modern interior with an emphasis on daylight below decks, thanks to large hull windows in every cabin. The owner's cabin is in the bow, and the two guest cabins are amidships, an arrangement that gives three adult couples their own space. There are two heads for guests, with cognac-colored Vetrofreddo sinks and wall-hung toilets hidden behind mirrored sliding doors, a characteristically Italian touch.

Details that buyers notice include leather-trimmed grab rails and storage designed to make the most of every corner. The lower helm has a two-person seat, an opening side window, an adjustable steering wheel and a 9.5-inch navigation display as standard, which most owners will have upgraded by now.

A flybridge with its own kitchen

The flybridge extends aft to shelter the whole cockpit, and it was designed as an outdoor living room. Besides the helm with a full set of instruments, it has seating running from aft to forward and a clever table with teak elements that incorporates a refrigerator, a barbecue and a drawer for cooking gear. On a summer evening at anchor, nobody needs to go below to cook.

The cockpit sofa hides the stairs to a crew cabin aft. Owners who run the boat themselves can use the space for storage, water toys and a washer-dryer instead. That is worth checking on any 48 for sale, because a well-fitted utility room is useful while a damp, unused crew cabin is a maintenance headache.

Two Cummins QSC 8.3s and what Azimut claimed

The 48 was designed around two Cummins QSC 8.3 six-cylinder diesels rated at 600 hp each. Azimut and YachtBuyer quote a 32-knot top speed and a 27-knot cruise, at about 19.5 tonnes fully loaded with 2,000 liters, or 528 gallons, of fuel. Some broker listings claim higher speeds, but without an independent test we would plan around the builder's figures.

The QSC 8.3 is widely used and well supported in the U.S., which helps ownership. The usual watch points are aftercooler and heat exchanger maintenance, turbochargers, and engine mounts. Ask for oil analysis and a service history from a Cummins dealer. If the boat has been repowered or rebuilt, get the paperwork, because that matters more to value than the model year.

Three different Azimut 48s on the market

Search for a 48 Azimut for sale and you will see three different boats. The Azimut 48 Fly covered here is a 2010 to 2014 flybridge. The Azimut Atlantis 48 is an express cruiser from the same years, also with Cummins QSC 8.3 engines, but with no flybridge, two cabins, about 449 gallons of fuel and a lower profile. The Azimut Verve 48 is a 2020s center-console-style dayboat with outboards.

Brokers often list all three as a 48 or even 52 foot Azimut, and some listings mix up the details. A 2013 Atlantis 48 in Miami, for example, appears as a 48-foot Azimut with Cummins power, just like a 48 Fly. Check the photos for a flybridge and ask for the hull identification number before you compare prices.

  • Azimut 48 Fly: flybridge, three cabins, 528 gallons of fuel, 2010 to 2014
  • Atlantis 48: express hardtop, two cabins, about 449 gallons of fuel
  • Verve 48: outboard dayboat, 2020s

Prices and running costs

The clearest recent example is a 2014 48 Fly in Miami that was listed at $545,000 early in 2026 and later reduced to $445,000. It had twin QSC 8.3s, an 18 kW Kohler generator and a hydraulic swim platform with a tender. That reduction shows how hard the market is on 10 to 15 year old Italian flybridges without a strong service story. We estimate most boats ask $380,000 to $560,000, with the best late examples at the top.

Annual running costs in the U.S. should fall around $45,000 to $85,000, covering a 50-foot slip, insurance, engine and generator service, bottom paint and canvas. Shaft-drive maintenance is straightforward, but budget for cutless bearings and prop work at haul-out.

Why Azimut started again with the 50

When Azimut replaced the 48 in 2014, it did not stretch the hull. MBY reported that the company tooled an entirely new hull for the Azimut 50 instead of reusing the 48's, and moved to a full-beam master amidships, mirrored glass and a far bigger flybridge. The market wanted more volume, and the 50 delivered it.

That leaves the 48 as the last of Azimut's mid-size flybridges with the owner's cabin in the bow. If you value three equal-feeling cabins and a lower, sleeker profile over a big master suite, it can be a better fit than the 50 at a much lower price.

How much does a Azimut 48 cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$380K to $560K
Yearly running costs$45K to $85K

Few 48 Flys reach the U.S. market, so each listing sets the tone. A 2014 boat in Miami with twin Cummins QSC 8.3s, an 18 kW generator and a hydraulic platform was cut from $545,000 to $445,000 during 2026, which shows how price-sensitive this model is. Expect the best money for late boats with low engine hours, a joystick and freshwater or lift storage.

Our verdict on the Azimut 48

The Azimut 48 is a quiet success: a handsome, practical flybridge with three good cabins, an outdoor kitchen on the flybridge and well-supported Cummins power. It lacks the independent test data and big master suite that make the later Azimut 50 easier to sell, and its U.S. market is small. For buyers who prefer the owner's cabin forward and value a lower profile, a well-serviced 48 Fly offers a lot of Azimut for the money, as long as you check you are really looking at a 48 Fly.
