The Azimut 70 is a 71-foot flybridge built from 2008 to 2015, with four en suite cabins, crew quarters, twin MAN V12 diesels, a factory top speed of 33 knots and typical asking prices of $1 million to $1.45 million.

Best for
  • Families wanting four private cabins for about $1.2 million
  • Owners with a part-time captain
  • East Coast and Bahamas cruising
  • Buyers who value interior space over the newest styling

The most innovative yacht of 2008

The Azimut 70 arrived in 2008 as the big brother of the yard's mid-size flybridges and quickly picked up awards: Most Innovative Yacht of the Year at the 2008 World Yachts Trophies and Best Motor Yacht from 40 to 75 feet at the 2010 Asian Marine and Boat Awards. It stayed in production until 2015, and YachtBuyer records about 64 built, which makes it far rarer than the 62 or 64 that sat below it.

If you search for a 70 foot Azimut today you will mostly find these 2008 to 2015 boats, often listed as the 70 Fly. Two other boats share the number, the 1990s Azimut 70 Sea Jet and the new Fly 70 that debuted at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, and a section below explains how to tell them apart.

Fifteen square meters of glass and a shark's fin

Stefano Righini set out to make the windows extreme, Azimut said, and they are: more than 15 square meters of glazing in the superstructure, with an elliptical pane sweeping back into a shark's fin that rises from the deckhouse. From the saloon, the effect is a bright, almost panoramic main deck. From the dock, the 70 looks longer than its 22 meters of hull.

Every one of those big bonded panes is a maintenance item now. Window resealing on a boat this size is a significant job, often requiring scaffolding or a haul-out and specialist adhesive work, so ask when it was last done and look for staining on the headliners.

Four cabins and four heads below

Azimut described the lower deck as the most comprehensive in its class, with four cabins and four bathrooms. The full-beam owner's suite amidships covers about 15 square meters plus a walk-in wardrobe, with two panoramic windows split into four vertical sections, two of which open for fresh air. A dinette with built-in vanity sits to starboard and a chest of drawers to port. The VIP is forward, and two further guest cabins complete the deck; an HMY listing of a 2011 boat described all four with queen berths and private heads, while YachtBuyer's plan shows twins in two of them, so layouts vary.

Aft of the engine room, crew quarters with two berths and their own head give a captain and mate somewhere to live, which matters on a boat of this size because most US owners will at least use a part-time captain.

  • Full-beam master of about 15 square meters with walk-in wardrobe
  • VIP forward with en suite
  • Two further guest cabins, each with a head
  • Two-berth crew cabin with head aft

Cockpit, saloon and a 344-square-foot flybridge

The cockpit is dominated by a C-shaped sofa and a dining table for eight, shaded by the flybridge overhang. Inside, the saloon used Rubelli fabrics, decape oak and leather details, and the galley has a marble top, Gaggenau and Miele appliances and a fold-away extractor. The lower helm has a comfortable pilot seat and a joystick for docking.

Yachting put the flybridge at about 344 square feet, enough for a helm, dining area, sun pads and loose furniture, or tender stowage depending on how the boat was specified. Many US boats have a hardtop added, which you should check for proper bedding and drainage.

MAN V12 power and realistic expectations

YachtBuyer lists twin MAN V12-1400 diesels with a 33-knot top speed and a 27-knot cruise. Listings for 2009 and 2011 boats show MAN V12-1360s instead, so engine ratings appear to have changed during the run; check the data plates. Either way you have about 2,700 to 2,800 hp on conventional shafts and 1,268 gallons of fuel.

We could not find an independent speed and fuel table for the Azimut 70. The closest reference is the Azimut 72 that replaced it: Power & Motoryacht noted that the 72 used the same 1,400 hp MAN engines, was 18 percent heavier and was just as fast, and recorded 26 knots at 103.8 gph and 33.1 knots at the top. A lighter 70 in good order should be at least as economical, so plan on roughly 100 gph combined at a fast cruise and about 300 nautical miles between fuel stops with reserve.

The 70 against the 72 that followed

When Azimut launched the 72 in 2015, it still listed the 70, and both magazines measured the newcomer against it. Power & Motoryacht reported that the 72, on a very similar beam and only slightly longer, has 25 percent more internal volume thanks to bigger superstructure moldings, carbon fiber up top and resin infusion. Yachting added that the 72's flybridge is about 409 square feet against the 70's 344.

That comparison is the key to the 70's value. You are buying an older, all-fiberglass design with less volume and a smaller flybridge, but it has four en suite cabins, the same engines and similar speed, and it costs roughly half what a 2015 to 2020 Azimut 72 asks. For an owner who spends most time aboard on the main deck and in the cockpit, the gap in daily life is smaller than the gap in price.

Sea Jet, 70, Fly 70: telling them apart

Three Azimuts carry the 70 number. The Azimut 70 Sea Jet is a 1990s model; European listings show 1997 and 2000 boats with MTU 12V 183 TE93 engines of about 1,150 hp. The 2008 to 2015 Azimut 70 on this page has Righini's shark-fin windows and MAN V12s. The new Azimut Fly 70, which debuted at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, is a 70-foot 5-inch design by Alberto Mancini with a Fabio Fantolino interior, four cabins, twin Volvo Penta IPS1350 pods and a quoted 31 knots.

Brokers sometimes round other models to 70 feet. Yachting reported a 2021 yacht listed as an Azimut 70 with triple Volvo IPS1050 engines, which is not the shaft-driven 2008 to 2015 design, so always confirm the exact model with the hull identification number.

Buying and running a 70 foot Azimut

Most 70s now ask between about $1 million and $1.45 million, with 2013 and 2014 boats at the top. Budget around $160,000 to $280,000 a year in Florida once you include a part-time or full-time captain, insurance, a 75-foot slip, MAN and generator servicing, stabilizer maintenance and an annual haul. Twin Seakeepers and a Xenta joystick were available, and boats with both are far easier to sell later.

How much does a Azimut 70 Flybridge cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$1M to $1.45M
Yearly running costs$160K to $280K

YachtBuyer recently tracked a 2014 Azimut 70 at $1.35 million and a 2013 boat at $1.195 million, with a 2009 boat in Europe at 1.06 million euros. Back in 2017, Yachting reported a 2011 boat with crocodile leather upgrades, twin Seakeepers and a Xenta joystick at $1.599 million. Stabilizers, joystick, engine hours and the condition of the large bonded windows drive the spread more than year.

Our verdict on the Azimut 70 Flybridge

The Azimut 70 is a value play on four cabins and a lot of glass. It lacks the volume, carbon superstructure and independent test record of the 72 that replaced it, and its big windows and V12 engines demand careful maintenance, but it offers four en suite cabins, crew quarters and low-30-knot speeds for roughly half the price of a 72. Buy one with stabilizers, documented engine care and recently resealed glazing, and confirm by hull number that you are looking at the 2008 to 2015 boat rather than the Sea Jet or the new Fly 70.
