The Ferretti Yachts 860 is an 88-foot 5-inch, four-cabin flybridge that debuted at Cannes in 2022, replacing the 850 on the same hull and machinery. Twin MAN V12-1800 or V12-2000 diesels give 28 to about 32 knots.

What the Ferretti Yachts 860 is

The Ferretti Yachts 860 is the 88-foot flybridge that took over from the 850 at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2022. Hull No. 1 went to an Italian owner with the Classic interior. Motor Boat and Yachting summed it up well: the 860 sits on the same hull and machinery as the 850, of which some 30-plus were built in six years, yet nearly everything above the waterline has been rethought, from the flybridge to the crew cabins in the bow.

Ferretti's numbers give an overall length of 88 feet 5 inches on a 78-foot 7-inch hull, a 20-foot 5-inch beam and a draft of 6 feet 10 inches. Displacement is 72 tonnes light and 82 tonnes laden, with 7,000 liters of fuel (1,849 gallons) and 1,400 liters of water. It now sits above the new 800 and below the 940 and the 1000 in Ferretti's flybridge range.

How it differs from the 850

The biggest change is the forward main deck. On the 850, a single-seat lower helm sat on a raised half-deck and the galley was tucked far forward. On the 860 the bridge is a proper two-seat wheelhouse, still raised by one step, with a booth that works as a crew mess, and the galley has moved aft of it to starboard, much closer to the dining table. Headroom in the galley is close to eight feet, and it has its own door to the starboard side deck, with a second door available as an option.

Moving the galley moved the main stair, which forced a redesign below. Filippo Salvetti's new exterior then required new superstructure moldings, and the flybridge grew slightly wider with curved sides. All of that added about four and a half tonnes, which is why the top engine option climbed from 1,900 to 2,000 hp.

  • Two-seat bridge with crew booth instead of a single-seat helm
  • Galley moved aft of the bridge, with a side-deck door
  • Helical staircase to the cabins instead of the 850's stair
  • Glass cockpit balustrade and a larger foredeck terrace

Glass cockpit, foredeck terrace and three hardtops

Aft, a glass balustrade opens the 325-square-foot cockpit to the sea and connects it visually with the hydraulic swim platform. The transom door lifts to reveal a garage for a 13-foot jet tender, such as a Williams SportJet of about 12 feet 8 inches, plus a personal watercraft. Forward, a 120-square-foot terrace has low, forward-facing armchairs and a table that lowers to create another sunbed.

The flybridge is the social center: a long dining table with sofa, a well-equipped bar, a two-seat helm, a padded lounging area beside the helm and an aft section that can take freestanding furniture, a sunbed or a hot tub. Three hardtop sizes are offered, the largest bigger than the one on the Ferretti 1000, with fixed glass, opening glass or adjustable shading blades.

Salon, owner's suite and crew forward

The salon covers about 290 square feet with full-height glass and cut-down bulwarks, and sliding glass side doors give most of the benefits of a balcony without the complexity. Hull No. 1 had freestanding Poltrona Frau furniture and a 75-inch TV standing on the sole. Pocket and sliding doors can close off the galley and day head, the bridge and booth, or both, so the boat can be run informally or with full crew separation.

A helical staircase leads down to four en suite cabins. The full-beam owner's cabin has a forward-facing king, a sofa, a vanity and a walk-in wardrobe, with the bathroom set along the aft bulkhead to insulate the room from the engines. There is a VIP, a second double and a smaller twin. Headroom runs about 6 feet 6 inches to 6 feet 8 inches below. Four crew sleep in two twin-bunk cabins in the bow, reached by their own stair under the one-piece windshield.

Two sea trials, two sets of numbers

Yachting tested Hull No. 1 with the 2,000-hp MAN V12s at around one-third load and saw 32 knots at about 2,350 rpm. It quoted a fast cruise of 25 to 28 knots between 2,000 and 2,200 rpm, burning roughly 6 to 7 gallons per nautical mile, for a range of about 280 to 300 miles. At 10 knots the burn falls to about 1.75 gallons per mile, good for close to 1,000 miles.

Motor Boat and Yachting ran the same engines off the south of France and recorded 29.6 knots on a two-way average, exactly the figure it had seen on the 850 in 2016. Its fuel data is more useful for planning: 396 liters per hour (about 105 gallons) at 18.3 knots for 302 miles of range, and 65 liters per hour (about 17 gallons) at 10.2 knots for 879 miles. Noise was 59 dB(A) at 18.3 knots. The captain considered 24 knots the best fast cruise. The standard 1,800-hp engines are quoted at 28 knots top and 23 to 24 knots cruise.

Stabilization, docking and helm electronics

The test boats used electronic steering, Humphree automatic trim, a Seakeeper gyro and Sleipner Vector fins, all talking through Xenta software. Owners can choose a gyro, Vector fins or both, and Xenta's Adaptive Integrated Docking system is an option worth having on a boat this size. The lower helm has three Simrad-Naviop displays with a choice of screen sizes.

Ferretti 860 for sale and what ownership costs

The first resale boats are only a few years old, so asking prices stay close to new. Current listings for 2023 to 2026 boats run roughly $6.3 million to $7.7 million in the US and Asia, and about 5.5 to 8.25 million euros in Europe. A new 2026 boat, well specified, should land between about $6.9 million and $8.6 million. Equipment matters more than year at this stage: hot tub, hardtop size, stabilization choices and engine option create big spreads.

Running costs are those of an 88-foot crewed yacht: a captain and two crew are normal, plus dockage for a 20-foot 5-inch beam, insurance, MAN V12 servicing, gyro and fin maintenance and two generators. Budget roughly $340,000 to $600,000 a year in the US before depreciation, with fuel depending heavily on whether you cruise at 18 or 26 knots.

Our verdict on the Ferretti Yachts 860

The Ferretti Yachts 860 is what happens when a builder keeps a proven hull and fixes almost everything owners and crews complained about on the deck above it. The two-seat bridge, relocated galley, glass cockpit and foredeck terrace make it a far better crewed yacht than the 850, and both sea trials show a quiet, predictable boat that is happiest between 18 and 24 knots. Visibility from the lower helm is its real weakness. Choose the 2,000-hp MANs, keep the options list honest about weight, and it should remain one of the safest investments at 88 feet.
