The Ferretti 580 fills the hole between the 500 and the 670

For a few seasons Ferretti Yachts had a gap in its flybridge range. The old 570 had gone, the 550 had run its course, and the step from the entry 500 to the 66-foot 670 was a big one in both size and money. The Ferretti 580 closes it. At 59 feet 10 inches overall with a 16-foot 5-inch beam, it is a couple of feet longer and roughly six inches wider than the 570 it effectively replaces, a little heavier, and fitted with more horsepower and larger tanks to match.

The boat was developed by the Ferretti Group Strategic Product Committee, chaired by Piero Ferrari, together with the group's engineering department in Forli. Filippo Salvetti drew the exterior, making it the sixth Ferretti flybridge model to carry his lines, and the Italian studio Ideaeitalia handled the interior. Yachting reported seven boats sold off the drawings in August 2022, with the first launch planned for that October, and Ferretti said 11 hulls were already sold by the time the 580 made its public debut at boot Dusseldorf in January 2023.

Ferretti has never used the 580 name before, so there is no older generation to confuse it with, unlike the 590, 591 and 592 of the 2000s.

A low, taut profile that resists the high-sided trend

Most 60-foot flybridges launched since 2020 have grown tall: deep topsides, towering superstructures, and flybridge overhangs that make them look like small ships. The 580 goes the other way. The window line is shallow, the flybridge runs all the way aft to the transom with a glass balustrade at its back edge, and the profile reads as rakish rather than boxy. YachtBuyer's reviewer called it the tightest-proportioned boat in its size range.

That restraint has costs, and the testers who drove it named them. The shallow one-piece windshield and thick mullions limit the view from the seated lower helm, and when the foredeck sofa backrests are up the skipper sees mostly sky at cruising trim of about five degrees bow up. Power and Motoryacht and Motor Boat and Yachting both recommend stowing those cushions underway. A fixed hardtop is optional; the standard shade is an electro-hydraulic bimini that keeps the lines cleaner and costs less.

The aft galley and the electric window to the cockpit

Ferretti was one of the first builders to put the galley at the aft end of the salon on mid-size flybridges, and the 580 keeps the idea. Step through the sliding glass doors and you are in the U-shaped galley, to port, with cooktop, oven, fridge, freezer and garbage disposal standard and a wine chiller and dishwasher on the options list. The window between galley and cockpit is now an electric pane that drops into the counter, replacing the top-hinged window earlier Ferrettis used. With the doors open the main deck becomes one long serving and socializing space from transom to helm.

Forward of the galley, a U-shaped settee to port faces a sofa with a pop-up TV, and the two-seat helm sits to starboard. Yachting measured nearly 194 square feet of usable main deck, yet YachtBuyer found the salon feels less open than a Princess F55 because of chunky window frames. There is no side door at the lower helm.

Two decor moods are offered: Classic, with walnut, dark leather and gray marble, and Contemporary, with ivory oak, light gray leather and white marble.

Two heads or three, and why the owner's mezzanine wins

Below, all 580s have three cabins: a full-beam owner's suite amidships, a VIP double in the bow and a twin to starboard. The only decision is whether to fit two or three heads. In the two-head plan, the owner gets a raised lobby on the port side with a dressing table or desk, a smoked-glass skylight and a big hanging locker, and the VIP and twin share the starboard head. Choose three heads and that raised study becomes a second bathroom so every cabin is en suite.

Every reviewer we read preferred the two-head plan. YachtBuyer called the owner's mezzanine unique in the class and said it turns the cabin into a living space; Motor Boat and Yachting called it an owner's cabin to die for. The VIP bed sits well forward and 37 inches off the sole, with steps up the sides, and measures 6 feet 6 inches by 5 feet 6 inches. Headroom runs around 6 feet 6 to 6 feet 7 inches throughout. A floor-to-ceiling locker in the lobby takes a washer and dryer where all cabins can reach it.

A crew cabin is optional, reached through a hatch in the transom seating; skip it and the void becomes lined storage.

D13 power, V-drives and what the tests recorded

Standard power is a pair of Volvo Penta D13-900s, with D13-1000s optional; Ferretti also lists the Baudouin 6F21 as an alternative, since Baudouin and the Ferretti Group share the same Chinese parent, Weichai. The engines sit aft on V-drive shafts, which pushes the noise away from the cabins, and fuel tanks across the forward engine room bulkhead add a further sound barrier. Ferretti quotes 28 knots maximum and 24 knots cruise with the 900s, and 32 knots maximum and 26 knots cruise with the 1,000s.

Test numbers line up. Power and Motoryacht ran a D13-1000 boat at Cannes with an average cruising load and no tender, topping out just over 31 knots on a two-way run and calculating a 250-mile range at 28 knots. It held the plane down to 17 knots and got more efficient at higher speeds. YachtBuyer, with 11 people aboard, saw a comfortable 25-knot cruise burning about 250 liters per hour combined, roughly 66 gallons per hour, for a range of around 300 nautical miles. The builder's maximum range figure is 310 nautical miles at 24 knots.

Xenta's electro-hydraulic system ties the shafts and thrusters to a joystick, with Humphree trim. Motor Boat and Yachting found a tight turning circle and a firm but manageable ride in a 2 to 3-foot sea.

  • Builder figures: 28 knots top and 24 knots cruise with 2 x 900 hp, 32 knots top and 26 knots cruise with 2 x 1,000 hp
  • Power and Motoryacht: just over 31 knots top with D13-1000s, 250 nm range at 28 knots
  • YachtBuyer: about 66 gph combined at a 25-knot cruise, roughly 300 nm range
  • Fuel 859 gallons, water 185 gallons, laden displacement about 81,600 lb

Engine room access and the systems list

Access is through a cockpit hatch and a teak ladder. Headroom drops below 6 feet away from the hatch, but testers found the inboard sides of both engines, the couplings and the gearboxes easy to reach, and a freshwater washdown lets you rinse spills out of the bilge.

An optional Seakeeper mounts below the companionway, and a watermaker is on the list, which is unusual at this size. An auto-reeling shore power cable is fitted. YachtBuyer also noted the 580 is CE Category A for 14 people, the highest rating, which few boats in this segment carry. Note that early press materials and some listing sites describe IPS pods on the 580; the boat is built on shafts with V-drives.

Floating bow lounge, convertible cockpit and the flybridge

The foredeck is the 580's party piece: a pair of opposing sofas and a big walkaround sun pad that appear to float on hidden supports, with wooden armrests and side tables. A teak walkway separates the day bed under the windshield from the four-person sun pad, whose backrest slides to form an aft-facing bench.

The cockpit table rides on an electric pedestal and drops to make a day bed, and stairs on both sides lead to a standard hydraulic platform rated for a Williams 325 jet tender. A third docking station can be added in the cockpit for stern-to mooring. Up top, the helm pod sits to port and well aft, freeing room for a sun pad forward, with L-shaped seating, a teak table and a wet bar aft.

Buying a 580 in the US and what to expect on cost

Allied Marine handles Ferretti sales and service in the US, and early 580s came onto the brokerage market quickly because several were bought as stock or show boats. Expect asking prices for 2023 and 2024 hulls to sit somewhere between about $1.5 million and $2 million in 2026, with the higher figures reserved for D13-1000 boats with hardtops, gyros and crew cabins. Ferretti's brand familiarity tends to hold values better than many rivals, a point Power and Motoryacht has made repeatedly about the yard.

Budget around 66 gallons per hour at a 25-knot cruise before generator time. Add insurance, a 60-foot slip, D13 servicing, gyro service, bottom paint and canvas, and $120,000 to $200,000 a year is realistic for an owner-run boat.

Figures come from builder documentation and independent tests where available. Displacement is usually quoted light, so a loaded cruising boat will weigh more. Compare these specs with another model.

How much does a Ferretti Yachts 580 cost?

New, typical sail-away$1.9M to $2.4M
Used, typical asking$1.45M to $2.15M
Yearly running costs$120K to $200K

Power and Motoryacht quoted the 580 at $1.8 million at launch, and Motor Boat and Yachting listed a base of 1.695 million euros before VAT in early 2024. A 2026 US boat with the D13-1000s, hardtop, Seakeeper, crew cabin and the Xenta joystick lands well above the base, which is why delivered prices cluster around $2 million or more. Used values depend heavily on engine choice, hardtop versus bimini, and whether the boat was commissioned to US electrical spec.

Our verdict on the Ferretti Yachts 580

The Ferretti 580 is not the boldest 60-foot flybridge on the market and does not try to be. It is a properly engineered shaft-drive boat with a Category A rating, an owner's suite with a raised study no rival offers, and an aft galley that genuinely works for family cruising. Accept the compromised lower-helm sightlines, pick the two-head plan and the D13-1000s, and you get a boat that should hold its value and still look right in 15 years.
