Which Ferretti Yacht 720 are you looking at?

Three different boats answer to the name. The Ferretti Yacht 720 most people search for is the 73-foot flybridge that premiered at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2019 with exterior styling by Filippo Salvetti, only his second project for the yard after the 670. That design was refreshed for 2026 with a longer, 73-foot 10-inch hull, new glazing and a reworked wheelhouse, and shown at Cannes and Genoa in September and October 2026. Ferretti calls it the evolution of the flybridge icon, and it is the 720 on the builder's website today.

The third boat is an older, unrelated Ferretti 720 launched in 2011: a 71-foot 6-inch flybridge with MTU diesels and an enclosed wheelhouse, covered in its own section below. Brokerage databases also file a few late-1990s Ferretti 72 motor yachts under similar search terms. Check the model year before comparing prices or specs, because none of these share a hull.

What Salvetti changed on the 2019 boat

Power and Motoryacht described the 2019 boat as having fewer curves and more straight lines than earlier Ferrettis, with bold black angles that hint at performance and disguise the size. Under the skin the yard moved to resin-infused lamination and laminated the flybridge with carbon fiber to cut weight up high and lower the center of gravity.

It was also the first Ferretti with glass doors spanning the full width of the cockpit, four panels sliding independently on curved tracks so they stack out of the way. The transom has a fold-down bench and a garage whose upper half lifts for a pair of Seabobs, while the whole door folds down into a sun bed. The full-beam hydraulic platform carries a tender of about 13 feet, and the flybridge, more than 300 square feet, leaves room aft for a crane and a small tender such as a Williams 325.

Hardtop options came in three forms: a fixed glass sunroof, a built-in bimini section, or louvers. A radar arch with bimini was standard.

A forward galley, four cabins and a full-beam master bath

Unusually for a Ferretti, the galley on the 720 is forward to port, opposite the helm, with a side door to the deck so crew can serve without walking through the salon. Aft, a lounge with a U-shaped settee to port sits just inside the doors, and a dining table for eight is one step up. Motor Boat and Yachting's Hugo Andreae admired the angled grain on the sideboards, ribbed alcantara bulkheads and smoked glass doors in the owner's suite.

Below are four cabins. The full-beam master amidships covers about 215 square feet, and Ferretti moved its head and walk-in wardrobe across the aft bulkhead so they span the beam, rather than putting the head to one side as before. Two twin cabins either side of the corridor share a head that doubles as the day head, and the VIP is in the bow with its own bath. Headroom is about 6 feet 7 inches on both decks according to Power and Motoryacht, and there is a two-berth crew cabin in the stern behind the engine room.

The 2026 update keeps four cabins but adds a sliding glass door that separates the dining and living area from the galley and wheelhouse, a windshield with no central pillar, up to four 16-inch displays at the helm, Poltrona Frau pilot seats, more storage throughout, and a revised 441-square-foot flybridge with a new dining area and an optional second helm seat.

V8 or V12, and the Cannes sea trial numbers

Standard engines are MAN V8-1200s, rated for 28 knots top and 24 knots cruise. The option is a pair of MAN V12-1400s, good for 32 knots top and 28 knots cruise. The V12s are heavier and about 18 inches longer than the V8s, but the engine room was designed from the start to take them, with the engines mounted horizontally on down-angle transmissions and good access all round.

Power and Motoryacht tested Hull No. 1 with the V12s in the Bay of Cannes with three-quarter fuel and two-thirds water. It ran exactly 32 knots on a two-way average at 2,270 rpm burning 143.7 gallons per hour, and 25.9 knots at 2,000 rpm on 104.6 gallons per hour with a range of 271 miles. At 1,000 rpm it made 10.5 knots on 17.2 gallons per hour for a theoretical 668 miles. Noise at the helm ran from 64 to 76 dB(A). The tester found the boat planted with Humphree trim on auto and the Seakeepers off, and suggested low 20s as the passagemaking sweet spot with roughly a 300-mile range. Ferretti's own maximum range figure is 300 nautical miles at 23 knots.

The first Ferretti 720 of 2011

Before Salvetti's boat, Ferretti built a different 720 that Power and Motoryacht tested in October 2011. It was a 71-foot 6-inch flybridge with an 18-foot 8-inch beam, about 6 feet 1 inch of draft, 1,321 gallons of fuel and twin MTU 10V 2000 diesels, either the 1,381 hp M92 or 1,524 hp M93. It had a sporty tumblehome superstructure, a distressed-oak floor option, an enclosed wheelhouse with crew dinette, an athwartships dining table and ZF SteerCommand electronic steering with independent rudders.

Performance was strong. Power and Motoryacht saw more than 34 knots in the Gulf of La Spezia with M93s, and Yachting, testing off Miami with heavy fuel and water, recorded 32.6 knots top and just over 28 knots at 2,100 rpm. Yachting described a warped-plane hull with 12 degrees of deadrise at the transom, four en suite cabins, crew quarters for three and twin 23 kW generators. On the brokerage market these boats are far cheaper than the 2019 design, so make sure a listing headed Ferretti 720 states its model year.

Running a 720 with crew

At 73 feet with crew quarters, galley side door and a forward wheelhouse, the 720 is designed to be run with at least one crew member, though experienced owners do handle it with joystick help. Expect around 100 to 105 gallons per hour at a 25 to 26-knot cruise with the V12s, and roughly 74 gallons per hour around 21 knots. A typical 200-hour season burns 15,000 to 20,000 gallons.

Add a full-time captain, dockage for a 74-foot boat with an 18-foot beam, insurance, MAN servicing, two gyros and two generators, and annual costs of $250,000 to $450,000 are realistic in the US. Allied Marine in Fort Lauderdale handles new sales and warranty work.

How much does a Ferretti Yachts 720 cost?

New, typical sail-away$4.9M to $6M
Used, typical asking$2.9M to $5.1M
Yearly running costs$250K to $450K

Motor Boat and Yachting priced the 2019 launch boat at 2.7 million euros before VAT. Allied Marine has since listed a 2023 720 at $4.175 million and a low-hour 2024 boat with V12s at $4.65 million, so the post-pandemic boats hold strong values. The 2026 update with its new glazing and wheelhouse sits at the top of the range; V12 power, twin gyros, the hardtop and a second generator are the main price drivers on used boats.

Our verdict on the Ferretti Yachts 720

The Ferretti 720 is a fast, well-engineered 73-footer that does the important things right: a genuinely big owner's suite, sensible crew flow, and real 32-knot speed with the V12s. It is not the most open main deck in the segment, and with more than 100 gallons an hour at cruise it is not cheap to run. On the used market a 2021 to 2023 V12 boat with gyros is the smart buy, while the 2026 update is worth waiting for if you value the new wheelhouse and the separated galley. Just be certain which 720 you are pricing.
