The Azimut 35 Metri, a short-run flagship

When the Azimut 35 Metri appeared in 2017 it was the new flagship of the Grande range, joining the 27 Metri, the 95RPH and the 120SL. Power and Motoryacht's first look in November 2017 opened by saying that when a builder of Azimut's size bestows the title of flagship, people take notice. The boat went on to collect a long list of awards in 2018, from the World Superyacht Awards to Robb Report's Best of the Best and MBY's Custom Yacht prize.

It was also short-lived. YachtBuyer dates production from 2017 to 2022 and estimates about 15 hulls, after which the Grande 36M took over. For a buyer searching "azimut 35 metri for sale" that small number cuts both ways: there are never many to choose from, but each one tends to be well specified and closely followed by the brokers who know the model.

Righini's perforated sheerline and the opening master terrace

Stefano Righini drew the exterior and defined the concept. In profile, he broke the traditional sheerline with not one but two long full-height windows on the main deck. The aft pair light the saloon, interrupted only by a side deck rail. The forward pair belong to the owner's suite, and they open outward as part of what Azimut described at launch as the largest extending terrace on the market, a private balcony on each side of the master.

That suite sits forward on the main deck, made possible by the raised pilothouse, and includes his-and-hers heads plus a sitting area placed to enjoy the terrace and the view. It is the feature most owners mention first, and the one to inspect most carefully, because large opening hull panels mean seals, hinges and hydraulics that need regular care.

The raised pilothouse idea, scaled to 115 feet

PMY described the 35 Metri as another riff on the melody begun by the Grande 95RPH: lift the wheelhouse, and the main deck opens up for a full-width saloon and an owner's suite forward. On the 35 Metri that also leaves the lower deck free for guests, with two VIP staterooms amidships and two further guest cabins, each with its own bathroom, so ten guests sleep in five cabins.

Crew quarters for six sit forward in four cabins, and a hullside garage aft takes a tender of about 16 feet plus a personal watercraft. Achille Salvagni had the generous beam to work with on the interior, and built it around a circular sofa in the saloon, with layered textures and colors chosen, in Azimut's words, for the well-being of everyone aboard. His interior also took Best Interior Design at the 2017 World Yachts Trophies.

Two beach clubs, an outdoor galley and an optional sundeck

The outdoor plan bookends the yacht with beach clubs: one on the foredeck with sun pads, seating and a massage tub, and one at the swim platform. The flybridge carries chaises longues aft, a bar with stools, a formal dining table, a long J-shaped settee and an alfresco galley, which makes it a genuine second living area rather than a helm station with cushions.

Azimut also offered a cantilevered sundeck as a third level aft, adding more sun pad space. Boats with it look noticeably taller in profile, so check listing photos if you want one, and check the added weight against the stability documentation if a later owner fitted equipment up there.

Range first, with the D2P hull and twin MTU M93s

The 35 Metri was one of the first Azimuts to ride on D2P, the yard's Displacement to Planing hull, which Ausonio drew together with the group's research team. Two chines run aft from a wave-piercer bow, and the carbon used high in the superstructure and flybridge keeps weight low. Azimut's pitch was a yacht that could make comfortable passages at 10 to 12 knots for long range, then still cruise at better than 20 knots when needed.

Power is a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M93 diesels at 2,400 hp each on shafts. YachtBuyer lists a 26-knot top speed, a 21-knot cruise and a range of about 2,022 nautical miles at 11.8 knots from 18,000 liters (about 4,755 gallons) of fuel. Few planing yachts of the same era advertised anything close to that figure, and it is the strongest argument for the model today.

  • Length 114 feet 10 inches overall, 93 feet 6 inches on the waterline, 24 feet 7 inches wide
  • Roughly 154 tonnes loaded, drawing about 6 feet 3 inches
  • Twin MTU 16V 2000 M93 at 2,400 hp, 26 knots maximum, 21 knots fast cruise
  • Close to 2,022 nm at 11.8 knots; 269 GT

Fifteen hulls, and what that means for buyers

YachtBuyer found that 13 of the estimated 15 boats were listed at some point over a three-year window, spending an average of about 509 days on the market and closing an average 7.3 percent below first asking price. Delivered examples include Tuma (2021), Dagusha V (2020) and Pura Vida of Liverpool (2020), and most boats trade in the Mediterranean with the odd listing in Florida, the Northeast or Mexico.

Expect to spend $1.1 million to $1.6 million a year to operate one with six crew, depending on cruising area and charter use. With so few hulls, ask for a full history of every refit and warranty claim, and favor boats that have stayed with one management company. A charter record is not a deal breaker, but it should be reflected in the price.

How the Grande 36M replaced it

Azimut announced the Grande 36 Metri in 2021 and launched it in 2022. It is nearly the same length at 115 feet 9 inches and the same 24-foot-7-inch beam, but Alberto Mancini's exterior adds an upper deck that runs nearly to the bow with a skylounge whose side windows retract, and the 36M uses 2,200 hp MTUs as standard with 2,400 hp optional. The 35 Metri keeps the Righini profile and the opening master terrace, and costs several million dollars less on the used market.

If you want the newest design and a warranty, the 36M is the obvious step. If you want the most range-per-dollar in a 35-meter Azimut, the 35 Metri still makes a strong case.

How much does a Azimut Grande 35 Metri cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$8.5M to $10.6M
Yearly running costs$1.1M to $1.6M

YachtBuyer counted six Grande 35 Metri yachts for sale in 2026, built 2018 to 2022, asking the equivalent of about $8.8 million to $10.6 million, and recent sales asked $8.9 million for a 2017 hull and $10 million to $10.9 million for 2019 boats. With only about 15 built, condition and refit history count more than year. Price cuts of 500,000 euros, as on Dagusha V, are common once a boat passes a year on the market.

Our verdict on the Azimut Grande 35 Metri

The Azimut Grande 35 Metri was a statement boat that never became a volume boat, and that makes a good one worth hunting. Righini's opening master terraces, beach clubs at both ends and a flybridge built for living set it apart from more conservative 35-meter flybridges, while the D2P hull gives it a range that rivals of the time could not touch. The risks are the ones that come with innovation and rarity: complex opening panels, a thin pool of boats and slow sales. Buy the one with the best documentation and you get much of the Grande 36M experience for millions less.
