The Benetti Oasis 40M and the stern that sold it

Most 40 meter yachts are sold from the salon forward. The Benetti Oasis 40M was sold from the transom. When Benetti showed the first hull to the public at the Genoa Boat Show in October 2020, the talking point was not the owner's suite or the sky lounge but the aft deck, which Benetti trademarked as the Oasis Deck. It combines a pool set flush with the deck, fold-down side wings that widen the terrace at the waterline, and a main salon that looks straight aft across the whole space with roughly 270 degrees of view.

That idea has proved durable. Benetti later extended the Oasis Deck to the 34M and to its larger steel and aluminum B.Now models, and in 2024 the Oasis 40M Oreos won the Boat International World Superyacht Award for displacement motor yachts of 499 GT and below between 40 and 44.9 meters. The jury cited a well conceived general arrangement and an attractive profile, which is broker shorthand for a boat that photographs well and lives well.

For a buyer in 2026, the Oasis 40M sits in an interesting spot. Benetti's current Oasis range lists the 36M and the new 42M flagship, the latter with hull number one due in 2027. That makes the 40M the established, proven version of the concept, with a track record on the charter market and a handful of hulls that come up for resale.

What the Oasis Deck actually does at anchor

On a conventional raised pilothouse or tri-deck yacht of this length, the aft main deck is a dining area and the swim platform is a narrow shelf with a garage door. On the Oasis 40M, the main deck steps down to a broad terrace that runs nearly to the waterline. With the hydraulic wings folded out, the space becomes a beach club without walls, with sun pads around the pool and direct access to the water for swimming, paddleboards and the tender.

The practical result is that guests spend the day at water level instead of on the sun deck. That changes how the crew works. Bar service moves aft, toys are launched closer to where guests sit, and the deck crew needs to manage the wings and platform with sea state in mind. The wings should be folded and secured before any real swell builds, and a good captain will reposition the yacht to keep the terrace in the lee.

  • Pool integrated into the aft deck rather than perched on the sun deck
  • Fold-out side wings that widen the terrace at the waterline
  • Unobstructed view aft from the main salon
  • Direct water access for swimming, toys and tender boarding

RWD lines with a Bonetti/Kozerski interior

The exterior styling and concept came from British studio RWD in partnership with the yard, and it blends a classic English sheer with Italian surface work. The profile reads lower and longer than many 40 meter yachts because the superstructure steps down toward the stern rather than stacking vertically. Interiors were drawn by New York based Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture, which favors light-toned woods, stone, big glazing and open plan spaces rather than heavy paneling.

Because Benetti sold the 40M as a semi-custom platform, hulls differ more than the brochure suggests. Oreos, for example, received glazed panels on either side of the main deck lounge that open onto the walkways, a balcony in the master stateroom, and a curved glass wall on the sun deck that splits a lounge area from the dining area and shelters guests from wind at anchor or under way.

Another hull, Alpha Waves, delivered to a Florida based owner and profiled by Power and Motoryacht in 2024, was built with an elevator connecting the guest decks, widened passageways, flush thresholds and a wheelchair friendly passerelle for an owner's wife who uses a wheelchair. She tows a 40-foot Invincible catamaran and carries a 17-foot Dragonfly flats skiff for permit fishing. That breadth of customization is one reason two Oasis 40M listings can feel like different yachts.

Five staterooms, ten guests and quarters for nine crew

The standard arrangement accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms, with the owner's suite on the main deck forward and four guest staterooms on the lower deck. Crew quarters are designed for nine people in five cabins, which is a real staffing advantage over yachts that cram seven crew into three cabins. The best hulls for charter keep at least two twin-convertible guest cabins below, because charter brokers sell flexibility to families traveling together.

Crew requirements and how the boat is run

Plan on a permanent crew of seven to nine. A typical private program has a captain, a chief officer or mate, a chief engineer, a bosun or deckhand, a chef, a chief stewardess and one or two additional stews. For charter work, nine is the realistic number because the Oasis Deck, the tender operations and five occupied staterooms create a lot of service hours.

The yacht falls under 499 GT, which matters. It keeps the vessel within the size band where crew certification, manning and survey regimes are more manageable than on larger commercial yachts, and it makes the boat easier to staff with officers holding 500 GT tickets. Crew salaries for a team of this size in 2026 run roughly $750,000 to $1 million per year before rotation, travel, uniforms and training.

Benetti quotes a range of about 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots, a top speed of 18 knots from its twin MAN V12 diesels and consumption of just over 100 liters per hour at 11 knots. The yard does not publish fuel or water capacities, so ask for the tank plan of the specific hull. That is real ocean crossing capability, and owners do use it: Alpha Waves was planned for Bahamas and Caribbean cruising followed by shipment or passages to Australia and Indonesia. Typical cruise speed for a displacement yacht of this size sits in the 10 to 12 knot band.

Charter income and how to approach it

The Oasis 40M is one of the more charterable yachts in its class because the stern terrace photographs beautifully and the guest experience at water level is exactly what charter clients want in the Mediterranean and the Bahamas. Weekly base rates for 40 meter yachts of this caliber generally fall in the $180,000 to $260,000 range in high season, with guests paying fuel, food, dockage and an advance provisioning allowance on top.

Ten to twelve charter weeks a year is a strong but realistic program for a well marketed yacht with a good crew. After broker commission, extra crew wear and the cost of keeping the boat in charter condition, net charter income usually offsets 30 to 50 percent of annual running costs. It rarely makes the yacht profitable, and buyers should treat charter as cost recovery rather than investment return.

  • Base charter rate estimate: $180,000 to $260,000 per week in season
  • Advance provisioning allowance typically 30 to 35 percent of the base rate
  • Under 499 GT keeps commercial compliance more manageable
  • Five staterooms and 10 guests meet the standard charter limit of 12 passengers

What it costs to keep an Oasis 40M running

The industry rule of thumb is that a superyacht costs about 10 percent of its value per year to run, excluding depreciation. For an Oasis 40M worth around $20 million that means roughly $2 million a year, and our range of $1.8 to $2.6 million is realistic for an active program. Crew salaries are the largest line, followed by maintenance and refit reserves, insurance, dockage, fuel and management.

Fiberglass construction helps. A GRP yacht of this size avoids the corrosion and fairing work that steel and aluminum hulls require, so paint and hull maintenance can be less dramatic, although a full topside paint job on a 40 meter yacht is still a seven figure project. Budget separately for the Oasis Deck systems, pool equipment, tender fleet and toys, which add up quickly.

  • Crew: about $750,000 to $1,000,000 per year
  • Maintenance and refit reserve: about $400,000 to $700,000 per year
  • Insurance: roughly 0.8 to 1.2 percent of hull value
  • Dockage, fuel, management, communications and yard periods make up the balance

Resale, the 34M sister and the new 42M

Oasis 40M hulls rarely sit on the market for long when priced correctly because the concept is still current and the newest Oasis model is years away from delivery. We estimate asking prices of roughly $16 million to $25 million depending on year, customization and condition. A hull with a sensible, neutral interior and a documented charter history tends to sell faster than a highly personalized one.

Buyers searching for the Benetti Oasis 34M will find a smaller sister at about 111 feet with the same Oasis Deck concept and a lower price of entry, typically in the $11 million to $15 million band on the brokerage market. The new Oasis 42M stretches the idea to 139 feet with a 4,000 nautical mile range at 10 knots, an optional hybrid mode and an owner's suite on the upper deck, but it comes at a new build premium and a long wait.

How much does a Benetti Oasis 40M cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$16M to $25M
Yearly running costs$1.8M to $2.6M

The Oasis 40M was sold only as a semi-custom new build, so every hull carries a different options list and the spread in asking prices is wide. Hulls with a main deck owner's balcony, an elevator, upgraded stabilization and a fresh paint job ask the most, while early hulls coming off heavy charter use trade at the bottom. Benetti has since moved the Oasis family to the 36M and 42M, which keeps late 40M hulls desirable as the newest boats available without a build slot wait.

Our verdict on the Benetti Oasis 40M

The Benetti Oasis 40M is the yacht that proved owners will pay for a better relationship with the water rather than more interior volume. Its fold-out pool terrace is still the benchmark at this size, its crew quarters are sensible, and its 4,000 nautical mile range makes it a genuine voyaging yacht. Buyers should budget about $2 million a year to run one, inspect the hydraulic and pool systems closely, and favor hulls with a balanced, charter friendly layout. For owners who live on board at anchor, few 40 meter yachts deliver more enjoyment per day.
