The 105 Azimut, the Jumbo's replacement from Viareggio
When Yachting tested the 105 Azimut in 2007, it introduced the boat as an all-new flybridge design that replaced the company's venerable 100-foot Jumbo. It was built at the Azimut and Benetti group's newly expanded facility in Viareggio, the yard where Azimut's larger yachts were produced, and tested on a run north toward Portovenere and back past the marble quarries of Carrara.
YachtBuyer, which files the model as the Grande 105, dates production from 2005 to 2011 and counts 28 built, although several boats on the market are listed as 2012 models. Azimut's 2011 specification gives 31.4 meters (103 feet) overall, a 6.98-meter (22-foot 11-inch) beam, 1.97 meters of draft and 122 tonnes displacement, with twin MTU 16V 2000 engines of 2,216 mhp each for 28 to 29 knots maximum and 25 to 26 knots cruise. For buyers looking at an Azimut 105 for sale today, that combination of size, speed and production volume is what keeps a steady trickle of boats on the market.
Owner up or owner down, the 105's two personalities
Azimut offered two basic arrangements, and they produce very different yachts. The standard plan puts the owner's stateroom on the main deck forward. Narrow side decks allow a nearly full-beam house, so the suite has room for a king berth, a sitting area with two chairs and a desk and vanity, and the bathroom and dressing area forward occupy the space that would otherwise hold two crew cabins. The crew moves aft, with a separate stairway from the galley, and four guest cabins sit below between the crew and the engine room: two forward twins with Pullman berths and two aft VIPs with queen berths and big three-panel hull windows.
The optional plan, which Azimut developed with the American market in mind, replaces the main-deck suite with a country kitchen, casual dining forward and a media room aft of the galley. The crew returns to the bow, and below decks there is a full-beam VIP forward, two twins with Pullmans and a full-beam owner's suite aft with his and hers heads, a large shower between them, a walk-in closet and a sitting area beside the hull windows. Yachting's test boat had this layout.
- Owner up: main-deck master, four guest cabins below, crew aft
- Owner down: country kitchen and media room on the main deck, owner's suite aft below, crew forward
- Twin cabins in both plans have Pullman berths for children
A bathtub with a sea view and a shower built for a crowd
The feature Yachting's tester remembered most from the owner-up version was the bathroom. A few steps down from the stateroom, a large tub sits against the forward bulkhead with a clear side panel that lines up with an oversized hull window, giving what he called an aquarium-tour experience. Opposite is a glass-enclosed trapezoidal shower roughly 5 by 7 feet, with his and hers sinks flanking the tub and hanging lockers in both the bathroom and the cabin.
On a used boat, these big glass and hull-window installations deserve close inspection. Check the bonding and seals around the hull windows from inside and out, look for staining in the joinery below them, and run the shower and tub to confirm the drains and sump pumps cope.
A 9.9-degree hull, V-drives and adjustable steering
The 105's hull is a relatively flat planing form, with Azimut quoting 9.9 degrees of deadrise aft and Yachting describing it as a nine-degree hull. That is shallow for a planing yacht and prioritizes efficiency and stability at rest over head-sea comfort. In Yachting's test the boat nonetheless shrugged off a moderate chop and the larger waves set up by tight turns without slamming, and it banked comfortably in S-turns.
The steering was very quick, too quick for the tester on long straight runs, but the boat has two steering pumps and adjustable sensitivity, and once it was turned down the yacht tracked arrow-straight. The engines drive through V-drive gears with shrouded jackshafts, giving a flatter shaft angle for better propulsive efficiency and less risk of cavitation. The engine room is compact but well arranged and reasonably accessible.
What $7 million of refits looks like, the Amanecer example
The 2009 Azimut 105 Amanecer shows both the potential and the cost of these yachts. According to the MarineMax listing reported by Yachting, about $5 million was spent in 2015 on a complete transformation, including a bespoke interior by Marmol Radziner and new stabilization, shafts, props, watermakers, air handlers, LED lighting and audio-visual systems. A further $2 million refit in 2023 covered full exterior paint, new windows, rebuilt main engines good for a 29-knot top end, rebuilt generators, new electronics, props and air conditioning, and a new saloon by Karen Lynn Interior Design. Her twin 2,200 hp MTU 16V 2000 M92 engines had about 4,880 hours in summer 2025.
Despite that investment, the asking price was cut by $1 million to $4.499 million in 2025. The lesson for buyers is that refit money rarely comes back dollar for dollar, which makes a freshly refitted 105 better value to buy than to create.
Azimut 105 or Grande 105, and why the name changed
Yachting and Azimut's own website in 2009 to 2011 called the boat simply the Azimut 105 and placed it in the flybridge range, while YachtBuyer and many brokers now list it as the Azimut Grande 105, reflecting Azimut's later grouping of its largest yachts in the Grande collection. They are the same yacht. Do not confuse it with the larger Azimut 116, which shared its styling team, or with the 100 Jumbo it replaced, which has a steeper 16-degree hull and an older interior.
Azimut 105 prices and running costs in 2026
Plan on about $3 million to $6 million. Earlier 2007 boats have sold around $3.2 million, current US listings for 2010 to 2012 yachts range from about $4.2 million to $6 million, and the heavily refitted Amanecer was asking $4.499 million. YachtBuyer reports that ten of the 28 built have been listed in the past three years, so there is usually a choice.
Running a 31-meter yacht with a crew of three or four, insurance, dockage, maintenance and periodic engine and paint work typically costs $650,000 to $1.1 million a year before fuel and depreciation. Charter income can offset part of that, as Amanecer's charter program shows, but it also adds hours and wear.

How much does a Azimut 105 cost?
YachtBuyer's recent sales run from about $3.2 million for a 2007 boat to $4.6 million for a 2012 boat, and current US listings range from about $4.2 million for a refitted 2012 yacht to $5.99 million for a 2010 yacht. The 2009 charter yacht Amanecer was cut to $4.499 million in 2025 despite roughly $7 million of refits. Engine hours, refit scope, stabilizers and charter history explain most of the spread.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Azimut 105
The 105 Azimut is a smart choice for a buyer who wants a real 100-foot flybridge with a proper owner's suite and does not need the latest styling. Its owner-up and owner-down layouts give it unusual flexibility, the big tanks and tender garage suit cruising, and Yachting's test found a hull that handles moderate seas well. Its shallow deadrise, quick steering and the eye-watering cost of keeping a 31-meter yacht current are the caveats. Buy a boat on which somebody else has already spent the refit money, and verify engines and stabilizers before anything else.
