Boston Whaler price expectations for a 38-foot Outrage
Anyone researching Boston Whaler price levels quickly learns that the 380 Outrage is where Whaler ownership gets serious. When the boat debuted at the Miami International Boat Show in February 2017, Sport Fishing published an MSRP of $476,966 with triple Mercury Verado 300s. Since then Whaler has made joystick piloting and integrated Simrad electronics standard, added V10 and V12 engine options and kept refining the boat, and current pricing reflects all of that.
The 380 was Whaler's ninth Outrage center console at launch, slotting into a lineup that then ran from the 190 to the 420. Sport Fishing described it as more than an upgrade of an earlier model, with transom deadrise increased to 23 degrees and a narrower, wave-slicing entry. It remains in production, with Whaler publishing a 2027 model-year spec sheet and five separate factory performance tests.
Whaler pitched the boat as an offshore fishing platform, an entertaining boat and a yacht tender in equal measure, and that triple personality explains why it sells to such different buyers.

The spec sheet, line by line
Whaler lists the 380 Outrage at 38 feet overall with an 11-foot 8-inch beam and a 23.5-inch draft. Dry weight without engines is 14,500 pounds, and the boat weighs 19,715 pounds with engines, fuel and water. Tankage is 445 gallons of fuel, 60 gallons of fresh water and 10 gallons of waste, and the transom livewell holds 60 gallons. Bridge clearance is 10 feet 4 inches with top and radar and 16 feet 4 inches with the optional upper station.
The power rating has grown with Mercury's engine range. At launch the maximum was 1,050 hp, Sport Fishing's 2020 review cited 1,600 hp, and today's sheet says 1,700 hp, which covers quad 425 hp V10s. The minimum is 900 hp. Persons capacity is 16 and maximum weight capacity 5,214 pounds.

Five engine packages, five factory tests
Few builders publish as much data as Whaler does for this boat. With triple 425 V10 Verados in a May 2026 test, the boat cruised at 34.1 knots and 46.2 gph at 4,000 rpm and topped out at 52.4 knots at 6,000 rpm on 109 gph. Range at cruise works out to about 295 nautical miles with a 10 percent reserve.
The other tests fill in the picture. Standard triple 300 V8s gave 33.9 knots at 4,000 rpm on 42.5 gph and 44.9 knots at 5,500 rpm. Quad 300s reached 49.9 knots. Twin 600 hp V12 Verados recorded 39.8 knots at 4,500 rpm on 55.5 gph and 52.5 knots at 6,000 rpm. The fastest package, quad 425 V10s, hit 58.1 knots at 6,000 rpm but burned 143.5 gph doing it, and its best economy was barely 0.65 nautical miles per gallon.
Magazine numbers agree. Power and Motoryacht reported a 31-knot cruise and 44-knot top with triple 350s, and Sport Fishing cited a factory 51 mph top speed for the same package. For most owners, triple V10s are the sweet spot: quad power adds speed and cost without much practical benefit.
An air-conditioned helm and a fold-down step
Power and Motoryacht's editor called the heat and air conditioning at the helm the wow factor of the boat at its Annapolis show debut, with vents right behind the helm seats. Three bolster-style seats with fold-down armrests sit behind the console, the center one electrically adjustable. A fold-down platform raises the skipper about 3 inches for a better view over the bow.
Tinted glass surrounds the helm on three sides with an electrically actuated vent in the curved windshield, and the dash takes dual 16-inch Simrad displays. An optional upper station adds a second helm with Simrad navigation, Skyhook positioning and autopilot under a fold-down canopy, which is the configuration to look for if you troll for billfish or sight-fish cobia.
Fishing hardware and entertaining options
Sport Fishing measured about 45 square feet of fishing space in the cockpit, over insulated in-floor fish boxes with macerators. The 60-gallon transom livewell has a divider to keep baits apart, a second livewell can go in the leaning post, and rod holders ring the boat, including six on the hardtop frame. Toe rails hold cannonball weights and a portside dive door opens wide enough to bring a big fish aboard.
For guests, an aft-facing couch faces the foldout transom seat and flips into a teak table or bait station. The optional Summer Kitchen replaces the leaning post with a grill, sink and refrigerator. Up front, Whaler notched the bow coaming outward to widen the seating, and the forward console lounge hides a lockable garage big enough for two 5-gallon buckets, a cooler or dive tanks.
Inside the console cabin
The console cabin is air-conditioned and has a skylight, a convertible settee that becomes a double berth, a microwave, a vanity with a vessel sink and an enclosed head with a shower wand and VacuFlush toilet. Whaler moved horizontal rod storage into the cabin, racks for four 6.5-foot and two 7.5-foot rods, which Power and Motoryacht praised because it frees the bow locker for coolers and bags.
It is a good place to change, nap or wait out a squall, and a couple could overnight in calm conditions, but it is not a cruising cabin. Buyers who want a real weekender should look at the 380 Realm or the Conquest line instead.
What it costs to run
At the triple-V10 cruise of about 46 gph, a 150-hour season uses around 6,900 gallons of fuel. Add three outboard services, generator maintenance, a Seakeeper service if fitted, electronics, insurance and a 40-foot slip, and we estimate $50,000 to $100,000 a year before depreciation. Boats with a captain, quad engines or heavy offshore use sit at the top of that range.
Whaler resale is strong, but the 380's many engine packages make comparisons tricky. Always compare like with like, and treat engine hours on triple or quad installations as the single biggest price driver.

How much does a Boston Whaler 380 Outrage cost?

Today's base boat includes joystick piloting, Simrad electronics and a generator, and engine choice spans from triple V8s to quad V10s, so our new range is an estimate that should be confirmed with a dealer. Used values follow engine package and hours first, then the upper station, Seakeeper and diesel generator options.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Boston Whaler 380 Outrage
The Boston Whaler 380 Outrage is a center console for owners who want to fish hard and still bring the family in comfort. The air-conditioned helm, a properly designed console cabin and a stack of factory test data across five engine packages make it easy to configure and easy to trust. It is not cheap to buy or run, but triple V10s deliver the best balance of speed and range, and the Whaler badge keeps resale strong.
