What the Boston Whaler 350 Realm actually is

The Boston Whaler 350 Realm is hard to file. Whaler calls it an express cabin cruiser, yet it has the open bow and walkaround console of a center console, a two-row helm deck like a dual console, and a cockpit with fish boxes and a livewell. Boating's tester relayed the company engineer's explanation that the Realm sits between the offshore Outrage center consoles and the Vantage dual consoles. Yachting simply called it the SUV of the sea.

Whaler unveiled the 350 Realm in Sarasota in September 2017 to kick off its 60th anniversary year, as the first model in a new family. It won the 2018 NMMA Innovation Award in the Cabin Cruisers category at the Miami show, where the larger 380 Realm also debuted. For 2023 Whaler introduced the Reimagined 350 and 380 Realm with new interior furnishings, sculpted exterior upholstery, a teak trim package, fully integrated Simrad electronics and the latest Mercury V10 power.

The boat remains in Whaler's current lineup, with 2027 model-year spec and performance sheets published, which makes it one of the few big Whalers you can buy new or used with the same basic hull.

Hull, weights and capacities

Whaler's current specification lists a length overall of 35 feet 6 inches, a beam of 10 feet 10 inches and a draft of 24.5 inches. Dry weight without engines is 13,600 pounds, and the boat weighs 18,830 pounds with engines, fuel, water and batteries. Fuel capacity is 385 gallons in an aluminum tank, with 45 gallons of fresh water and 10 gallons of waste. Bridge clearance is 9 feet 11 inches with top and radar.

The running surface is derived from the 350 Outrage center console, with a 23-degree transom deadrise and what Whaler calls its Variable Running Surface. Boating found that the foam-filled hull could be pushed into a chop at speed without hurting the crew, and that with tabs down and engines trimmed in it would stay on plane at just 18 mph, useful when conditions turn ugly.

Triple-outboard numbers from three tests

Whaler's most recent factory test, run in October 2025 with triple Mercury 425 V10 Verados and light fuel, recorded 34.9 knots at 4,500 rpm on 45.4 gph and a top speed of 54.1 knots at 6,600 rpm. The best range came at 4,000 to 4,500 rpm, where the sheet shows roughly 267 nautical miles with a 10 percent reserve. Time to plane was 9.4 seconds.

BoatTEST's run with triple 400 hp V10 Verados produced 30.2 knots at 4,000 rpm on 37.5 gph and 50 knots at 6,200 rpm on 100.1 gph. Whaler's earlier 2018 test with triple 300 V8s recorded 35.6 knots at 4,000 rpm on 40.7 gph and 47.8 knots at 5,500 rpm. Boating's own 2018 test with triple 350s and seven people aboard saw over 50 mph and a 35 mph cruise at 4,500 rpm returning 0.81 mpg.

In practice, expect a 30 to 35-knot cruise burning 37 to 46 gph, and a top end in the high 40s to mid 50s of knots depending on engines and load. Those are express-cruiser speeds with center-console fuel bills.

A helm deck that works like a living room

The Realm's helm deck is where it earns its keep. The two-person helm seat has armrests and flip-up bolsters and swivels 180 degrees to face aft. Behind it, a second double seat has a flip-flop backrest, so it can face the swiveled helm seat with an optional table between them, or face aft as a mezzanine over the cockpit. Every seat on the helm deck has a footrest, a small detail that matters on long runs.

Under that second row is a 230-quart insulated cooler, available refrigerated, that can be loaded with the seat lifted or reached through a small clear access door without disturbing whoever is sitting on top. Opposite, the prep station hides an electric grill under a solid-surface lid that pops up and swivels into a counter, with a refrigerator below and a hot and cold sink. Reverse-cycle air conditioning is standard for both cabin and cockpit on current boats, fed by a 7.5 kW gas generator.

The open bow and the cabin below

Forward, a portside walk-through leads to a wide console lounge with armrests and a wraparound bow seat opposite. An electrically raised table with a filler cushion turns the area into a sun lounge, and an optional bow shade covers it. A windlass with 400 feet of rode and chain, a stainless anchor and a through-stem roller handle anchoring.

Below, the cabin is designed for a couple rather than a family. The V-berth converts from dinette seating to a double berth, and there is an enclosed stand-up head with a VacuFlush toilet, vanity and shower. Whaler's launch release listed a 28-inch flat-screen television, a microwave and cabinet storage. Boating judged that a couple could weekend aboard, which is a fair description.

Fishing from a Realm

The cockpit carries insulated in-floor fish boxes with pump-outs, gunwale and transom rod holders, a pressurized 15-gallon livewell in the aft port corner, a port-side dive door with a removable ladder and raw-water washdown. Outriggers, hardtop rod holders and a second livewell in place of the grill are options. It is a capable trolling and bottom-fishing boat, but serious live-bait anglers will find the standard livewell small compared with the 60-gallon well on the 380 Outrage.

Running costs and the quirks testers found

Three large outboards, a generator, two air conditioners, a joystick system and an optional Seakeeper 3 gyro add up. At about 45 gph at cruise, a 150-hour season burns roughly 6,800 gallons of fuel. Add triple-engine service, generator maintenance, insurance and a 40-foot slip, and we estimate $45,000 to $85,000 a year before depreciation.

Boating's testers flagged two niggles: you may need to crouch to see under the hardtop in very sharp turns, and one of the three engine fuel filters was blocked by the other two, making service awkward. Neither is a deal breaker, but both are worth checking on any boat you consider.

How much does a Boston Whaler 350 Realm cost?

New, typical sail-away$700K to $900K
Used, typical asking$320K to $700K
Yearly running costs$45K to $85K

Boating's 2018 test boat with triple 350 Verados was priced at $467,164. Current builds with V10 power, Seakeeper, upgraded electronics and the 2023 interior cost substantially more, so our new range is an estimate to be checked against a dealer quote. Used prices split between pre-2023 boats and the reimagined post-2023 version, and engine generation (V8 versus V10) is the next biggest factor.

  • Convertible two-row helm seating with footrests everywhere
  • Standard generator and air conditioning on current boats
  • Fast, with a top end above 50 knots on V10s
  • Unibond hull rides well and stays on plane at low speed

What to weigh up

  • Cabin suits a couple, not a family

  • Small standard livewell for live-bait anglers
  • Hardtop can block the view in tight turns
  • Awkward access to one fuel filter on tested boats

Our verdict on the Boston Whaler 350 Realm

The Boston Whaler 350 Realm is the most socially gifted boat Whaler builds: a helm deck that turns into a dining room, a cockpit kitchen, a cabin for two and a hull that can still punch offshore at 30-plus knots. It is expensive to buy and run, and serious anglers will prefer an Outrage, but for owners who split time between sandbar, restaurant dock and the occasional tuna trip, few boats this size do as many jobs well.
