Where the 460S sits among Prestige yachts for sale

Browse Prestige yachts for sale in the US and the 460S is one of the coupes that keeps turning up in the mid six figures. It was the hardtop sister of the Prestige 460 flybridge, announced when the 460 debuted at Yachts Miami Beach in February 2017 and scheduled to launch that summer. Yachting described the pair as part of a five-model Prestige range from 42 to 56 feet at the time, all styled by Garroni Design with engineering by JP Concepts.

Prestige builds in Les Herbiers, France, on the campus of a Jeanneau plant, and is part of Groupe Beneteau. Power and Motoryacht noted in 2017 that the brand does not start every model from scratch: the 460 reused the hull and flybridge mold of the 450 Fly introduced in 2013, with a new deck mold that widened the cockpit, lengthened the salon and removed the steps in the master's overhead. The 460S takes that platform and swaps the flybridge for a sleek coupe hardtop with a large opening sunroof.

By 2026 Prestige lists the 460S among its past models, so every boat on the market is a brokerage boat. That is good news for buyers: the 460S offers the brand's signature amidships master at a fraction of the price of a new Prestige coupe.

A coupe that opens up at the push of a button

Prestige described the 460S as a sporty version built around an interior open to the outside, and the two features that make that true are the big opening sunroof and an immense sliding glass door aft. Open both and the salon and cockpit become one space; close them on a cold or rainy day and you have a protected, glazed saloon with nearly 360 degrees of view.

The cockpit has an L-shaped settee aft with a hi-lo table that converts into a very large sundeck, and a sunshade for midday. Forward, two sunpads flank the centerline skylights over the VIP cabin. The side decks are reached from the cockpit, a request PMY said came from dealers, so crew can get forward easily for lines.

Inside, the galley is aft, where the cook can serve the cockpit and the salon at once. Amidships, a sofa sits to starboard abaft the helm and a U-shaped settee to port surrounds a fixed hi-lo table for interior dining. The boat Yachting featured had grey oak joinery and neutral upholstery, a combination that ages well and keeps the interior bright.

The amidships master that defines the brand

The reason many buyers choose a Prestige over an Italian or British rival of the same size is the full-beam master amidships. On the 460S it has a king berth, an en suite head, sofa seating to starboard, large hull windows and a flat-screen TV. PMY noted that on the 460 platform the master berth sits longitudinally and slightly offset to port, and that the new deck mold eliminated the overhead steps of the older 450, which changes the feel of the cabin more than the numbers suggest.

The forward VIP has a centerline queen, and the boat sleeps four in two cabins. An optional crew cabin with a single berth is reached from the aft deck. PMY's editors, who lived aboard a 460 flybridge for a summer, found the crew space superb as storage and fine for one adult who did not mind the size, but doubted many American owners would use it as a cabin. Treat it as a bonus locker that can sleep a deckhand or a teenager.

On the same platform, PMY also praised the wide-parting scissor berths in the VIP and the salon sofa, which with a hi-lo table and filler becomes another large berth.

IPS 500 or IPS 600, and what the numbers say

Prestige offered two Volvo Penta pod packages: twin IPS 500 using 370 hp D6 diesels, or twin IPS 600 using 435 hp D6s. With the IPS 600s, Prestige quotes a 33-knot top speed and a 25-knot cruise at full load, with a cruising range of about 230 nautical miles from 328 gallons of fuel. The boat Yachting featured in 2024 matched those builder figures.

We could not find an independent instrumented test of the 460S with a speed and fuel table, so treat the builder numbers as a guide. Working backward from the 230-mile range at 25 knots suggests a burn in the mid 30s of gallons per hour at cruise, which is typical of twin D6 IPS boats of this weight. Light displacement is 27,366 pounds, rising to 38,250 pounds at full load.

For handling, the IPS joystick is the big asset. PMY's summer with the flybridge 460 included squeezing into a tight Oak Bluffs slip with wind and current, where the IPS 600s' responsiveness made it manageable. On the coupe you also dock from a single lower helm with good sightlines, which many owners prefer to a flybridge.

What a 460S costs to keep in the US

A 47-foot diesel coupe is owner-operator territory. Budget roughly $55,000 to $95,000 a year for insurance, a 50-foot slip, IPS and engine service (including the pod service intervals Volvo specifies), generator and air conditioning maintenance, bottom work and 100 to 150 hours of fuel. Add a gyro stabilizer service if one is fitted.

Volvo Penta's US dealer network supports IPS widely, and Prestige sells through an established network of US dealers, which helps both resale and service.

Buying a used 460S with confidence

Most 460S boats on the US market date from 2018 to the early 2020s. The key variables are engine package, hours, whether a stabilizer and the crew cabin were fitted, and the condition of exterior teak and interior wood. The broker on the 2020 boat Yachting featured emphasized that it was fully serviced with wood refinishing done, which tells you what buyers look for.

Get an IPS-specific survey: pod oil analysis, bellows and seals, steering actuators and joystick calibration. Then inspect the sunroof mechanism and the large aft sliding door, since they are the parts most exposed to wear on a coupe.
