Vanquish yachts for sale, and why the VQ58 is the one people ask about
Most people searching Vanquish yachts for sale end up looking at the VQ58 sooner or later. It was the Dutch builder's flagship when it appeared at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2019, and it remains the largest regular production boat in a lineup that today runs from the VQ40 and VQ45 through the VQ55 and VQ58 to the VQ70 and the 115 foot VQ115. Power and Motoryacht's Jeff Moser described the line as part of a new breed of boldly styled dayboats and tenders turning heads from the Med to Martha's Vineyard, and the VQ58 is the clearest expression of it.
What sets Vanquish apart is material. Where most rivals build in composite, every VQ58 is welded from marine-grade aluminum by a company founded by a welder, which allows an unusual degree of customization above and below deck. That also makes buying used more complicated: no two VQ58s are quite the same, so the brochure tells you less than the individual boat.
A welder's shipyard in Marknesse
Tom Steentjes launched Vanquish in 2012 with the goal of bringing his skills as a master welder and engineer into yacht building. The yard sits in Marknesse in the Netherlands, and the company now has a US office on Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale, where Steentjes is based and handles the American business. For the styling he turned to Guido de Groot, a former Citroen car designer, which explains the automotive look: an axe bow, tall freeboard, a severely raked windshield and an almost horizontal sheer.
Moser noted that the paint is flawless and the welds invisible, which is the first thing buyers sceptical of aluminum should check for themselves. Done well, aluminum gives a light, stiff and durable hull; done badly, it shows weld lines through the paint and suffers from corrosion. Vanquish's reputation rests on doing it well.
Tender garage, walkaround decks and three top options
The VQ58 has a more graceful sweep than its smaller siblings to make room for wide side decks and the optional fixed roof with three-sided glass. It has been offered as an open boat, with a T-top or with a hardtop; Moser preferred the protection and air-conditioned space of the hardtop, with its single-piece windshield and large sunroof, though the open versions get a slick frameless windshield that suits the hull better.
Aft, a tender garage under the sunpad was designed around a 9 ft 6 in Williams Turbojet 285 on early boats; the builder now lists Vanquish's own VQ11 or a Williams 325. Owners who do not need a tender can delete the garage and extend the aft platform into a large swim deck, and early literature also mentioned a side garage for water toys. Forward and amidships the deck is built for lounging, with a summer galley under the hardtop.
- LOA 17.25 m (56 ft 7 in), beam 5.12 m (16 ft 9 in), draft about 1.25 m (4 ft 1 in) depending on engines
- Builder lightship displacement about 21.5 tonnes (47,400 lb)
- Fuel 1,595 liters (421 US gallons)
- Tender garage for a VQ11 or Williams 325, or a supersize aft platform instead
An interior built to order
Because aluminum structure is easy to modify, Vanquish lets buyers move almost everything. At launch the VQ58 was offered with two or three staterooms, both versions keeping the tender garage, or as a dayboat with one large forward cabin plus a side garage. The current builder description centers on a full-beam cabin with a king-size bed and an optional en suite, a lounge that can be swapped for an extended galley or a second bedroom, and a bathroom that can include a rain shower with over two meters of standing height.
In practice, most VQ58s are day and weekend boats for a couple or a family, used in the Med in summer or around Miami and the Bahamas in winter. If you need to sleep six regularly, insist on seeing the specific layout and measuring berths; on a used boat you cannot assume the brochure layout.
Pods or surface drives, and the speed each buys
Power has varied over the life of the model. Power and Motoryacht reported standard twin 600 hp Cummins Zeus pods at launch, with twin Volvo Penta D11 IPS950s (725 hp) or twin 16.2 liter MAN V8s at 1,300 hp each on France Helices surface drives as options; the MAN package was reported to push the boat to 48 knots. Vanquish's current listing names twin Volvo Penta D11 IPS950 or D13 IPS1350 engines and quotes a top speed of about 45 knots, noting that speed and weight are estimates in light ship condition.
The choice is a classic one. Pods give joystick docking, quieter running and easier owner-operation, while surface drives give more top speed and a dramatic wake but need skill at low speed and more specialist maintenance. We have not found a published instrumented test with a fuel curve for the VQ58, so treat any range claims carefully and ask the seller for engine data logs.
Owning an aluminum sport yacht
Aluminum yachts need disciplined corrosion management: correct anodes, a well-isolated electrical system, galvanic isolators on shore power and stray-current checks in marinas. Paint is the hull's skin, so chips and blisters must be dealt with promptly. None of this is difficult with a good yard, but it is different from owning a GRP boat, and a surveyor experienced with aluminum is essential.
Running costs for a 58 foot, 2,000-plus horsepower sport yacht are substantial. We estimate $180,000 to $350,000 a year excluding depreciation, covering dockage, insurance, crew or captain time, engine and pod service, paint care and fuel. Owners who run hard in the Bahamas will sit at the top of that range.
VQ58 price and how resale works
Vanquish does not publish prices, and every VQ58 is configured differently, so any price guidance is an estimate. Using the builder's smaller models as reference points, we expect a new VQ58 in 2026 to cost roughly $3.5 million to $5 million depending on power and finish, and used boats to range from about $2.2 million to $4 million. The builder itself runs a pre-owned listing, which is a good first stop for well-documented boats.
Resale depends on how specific the original owner's choices were. Neutral colors, a hardtop, pod propulsion and the tender garage are the safest combination; a wild livery or a highly personal interior narrows the market. Moser recalled a buyer at Cannes whose watch matched the boat's Gulf-inspired paint exactly, which is charming but tells you how individual these yachts can be.

Figures come from builder documentation and independent tests where available. Displacement is usually quoted light, so a loaded cruising boat will weigh more. Compare these specs with another model.
How much does a Vanquish VQ58 cost?
Vanquish does not publish list prices, so these are estimates. For scale, MBY quoted the smaller aluminum VQ48 at 1.18 million pounds, and for the GRP-hulled VQ55 Sports Line it advised readers not to expect much change from $3 million. Engine choice, tender garage configuration, hardtop versus open layout and the level of interior customization move the price more than anything else, and so few VQ58s exist that each resale is priced boat by boat.

A planning estimate using common rules of thumb: insurance near 1.5 percent of value, maintenance near 3 percent, haul out and bottom paint by length. Your marina, region and use will move these numbers. Open the full cost calculator.

Our verdict on the Vanquish VQ58
The Vanquish VQ58 is for a buyer who wants a fast, striking yacht that looks like no one else's, and who values a welded aluminum hull and a builder willing to customize nearly anything. It is not the most practical 58 footer, and the lack of public pricing and test data means you must do your homework on each boat. Choose pod power and a hardtop for the broadest use and resale, have an aluminum specialist survey any used example, and the VQ58 will deliver a level of style and speed few rivals match.
