Grady White 370 Express, the outboard alternative to a diesel sportfisher

If you are hunting for a Grady White 370 Express for sale, it helps to know who the boat was built for. Grady-White built its Express 330 and Express 360 before the late 2000s downturn, and its marketing vice president Shelley Tubaugh told Sport Fishing that the trend then reversed: owners came down from 45 to 60-foot inboard sportfishers into Grady's express boats because they still offered range offshore but cost far less to run and maintain, and one person could handle them.

The Express 370 is the result. The 37-foot model was on Grady's website by 2013, and by 2016 Grady's express line consisted of the 370 and the 330. When the 330 was replaced by the new Express 340 for 2026, the 370 stayed on as the flagship of what Grady now calls its express cabin range, built in Greenville, North Carolina.

Thirteen feet of beam on a SeaV2 bottom

The 370 is a big 37. Grady lists it at 36 feet 6 inches on centerline without engines, with a 13-foot 2-inch beam, a 29-inch draft and 15,224 pounds without engines; Sport Fishing's 2016 figures were 36 feet 7 inches and 14,919 pounds. Fuel is 372 gallons in two tanks of 190 and 182 gallons, and fresh water 54 gallons. Bridge clearance is 10 feet 9 inches.

Like every Grady, the hull is the SeaV2 continuously variable deep-V developed with C. Raymond Hunt Associates, with 20 degrees of deadrise at the transom sharpening toward the bow. Sport Fishing noted the 370 offers more cabin room, performance and reliability than many larger inboard boats, which is a fair summary of why buyers choose it.

  • Centerline length 36 ft 6 in, beam 13 ft 2 in, draft 29 in
  • Weight 15,224 lb without engines
  • Fuel 372 gal in two tanks, fresh water 54 gal
  • Maximum power 1,350 hp today; 1,050 hp in 2016
  • Seakeeper 4.5 gyro, 8 kW diesel generator and bow thruster standard

Triple XTO 450s, Grady's test numbers

Current boats run triple Yamaha XTO Offshore 450s. In Grady's test, at 20,596 pounds with a hardtop and bow pulpit, the 370 reached 58.4 mph at 6,000 rpm. The optimum cruise was 29.8 mph at 3,400 rpm on 32.5 gph, or 0.9 mpg. At 4,000 rpm it ran 37.2 mph on 46 gph, and above that fuel burn climbs steeply, to 80.2 gph at 47.8 mph.

Using 90 percent of the 372-gallon tank at the 0.9 mpg optimum suggests a practical reach of around 300 statute miles. That is less than some diesel express boats, but the 370 gets there faster and without an engine room. Earlier boats had triple Yamaha F300s and a 1,050 hp rating, so expect lower top speeds on 2010s examples; we have not seen an independent test of the F300 version.

Cherry cabin, galley and a real head

Without inboard engines under the bridgedeck, the 370 uses that space for accommodation. Below there is a forward V-berth, an aft double berth, and a cherry dinette with an adjustable table and seating for four that converts to another berth. The teak and holly sole, cedar-lined hanging closet and cherry cabinetry give it a traditional yacht finish. The galley has a Corian counter, sink, electric glass cooktop, microwave and stainless refrigerator and freezer.

The enclosed head has a VacuFlush toilet with an 18-gallon holding tank, a shower with a teak shelf and grate, and storage. Cabin air conditioning of 16,000 BTU, an 11-gallon water heater and a 32-inch television are standard, and the aft berth has racks for six rods.

Bridgedeck comfort and the fishing cockpit

The helm deck has its own 16,000 BTU air conditioning, a Deluxe Platinum helm chair that adjusts vertically and horizontally, a port companion seat and a starboard lounge with a hideaway table. Grady's electromechanically operated electronics enclosure raises the displays when needed and stows them when not. The AV2 hardtop has an electrically sliding sunroof, SureShade and Clear2Sea curtains, and the tempered glass windshield has an electric center vent and three wipers.

Aft, the cockpit is set up for serious fishing. A starboard rigging station carries a 48-gallon livewell, a freshwater sink and lockable drawers. The 291-quart aft fish box has digital refrigerator and freezer control, a reinforced area waits for a fighting chair, and a 1,300W grill is standard. There are side doors port and starboard plus a transom door, a foldaway bench and fresh and raw water washdowns.

What it costs to buy and run

In 2016 the Express 370 listed at $624,360 with triple F300s. Today's boat, with XTOs, a Seakeeper and a longer standard list, is substantially more expensive, and we estimate $1.15 million to $1.4 million new. Used prices run from about $300,000 for mid-2010s boats needing attention to more than $1 million for late boats. Annual costs of $45,000 to $85,000 cover insurance, a wide slip, triple outboard and generator service, gyro maintenance, air conditioning and fuel.

Grady's resale reputation is strong, and the 370 has few direct outboard express rivals of its size, which supports values. The flip side is that buyers are particular about engine generation, so a boat on original F300s with high hours will sit until it is priced to reflect a repower.

Express 370 or the new Express 340

The new Express 340 brings a starboard helm, two side doors and a modern interior at a lower price. The 370 counters with 19 more inches of beam, a fighting chair base, a Seakeeper as standard and a larger cabin and head. For couples and smaller families the 340 may be enough. For owners who want a 37-foot boat that behaves like a downsized sportfisher, the 370 is still the Grady to have.

How much does a Grady-White Express 370 cost?

New, typical sail-away$1.15M to $1.4M
Used, typical asking$300K to $1.15M
Yearly running costs$45K to $85K

Sport Fishing listed the Express 370 at $624,360 with triple Yamaha F300s in 2016. Grady no longer posts prices, so the current new range is our estimate, set above Boating's $909,090 base price for the smaller Express 340 and reflecting standard triple XTO 450s, a Seakeeper 4.5, generator and air conditioning. Used values depend on the engine generation: triple F300 boats from the 2010s sit at the bottom, while late boats on XTOs ask well over $1 million.

Our verdict on the Grady-White Express 370

The Grady-White Express 370 is what owners of big inboard sportfishers buy when they want to keep fishing offshore without the engine room. It has a 13-foot 2-inch beam, a cabin finished like a small yacht, a Seakeeper and generator as standard, and a cockpit ready for a fighting chair. Triple XTO 450s give it 58 mph and a 30 mph cruise, though at about 0.9 mpg it is no fuel miser. Used boats on triple F300s are good value if the engines are healthy, and late XTO boats hold their money well.
