The Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 as a value benchmark
Ask a dealer what sets the Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 apart and the answer is usually a list, not a feature. For a starting price of $158,568 in the 2027 lineup, Sea Hunt bolts on twin Yamaha F150s with electric steering, a fiberglass T-top with a misting system, a 12-inch Garmin with VHF, Yamaha's CL5 touchscreen, a windlass, a china toilet in the console, underwater lights, a side entry door and a rear bench. Many 25-foot rivals sell some of those as options, and a few do not offer them at all.
That formula is how Sea Hunt, founded in 1995 by Vic and Bubba Roof in a one-room shop outside Columbia, South Carolina, came to claim the title of the top-selling saltwater center console brand for 20 straight years. The Gamefish line is Sea Hunt's offshore series, above the family-oriented Ultras and the BX bay boats, and the 25 has been its entry point since about 2010, when it appeared on Sea Hunt's website alongside the Gamefish 27 and 29.
If you are shopping for a 25 foot boat that can run offshore on twins without a premium-brand price, this is the boat most others get measured against.

Three Yamaha tests, seven years apart
Yamaha has published three Performance Bulletins for the Gamefish 25 on twin F150s, in 2018, 2019 and 2025, which makes it one of the better-documented boats in its class. Put side by side, they tell a story that a single test cannot.
In June 2018, with 50 gallons of fuel and two people, the boat weighed 6,504 pounds as tested. It planed in 3.65 seconds, reached 30 mph in 5.15 seconds and topped out at 48.1 mph. Its best economy was 2.60 mpg at 3,500 rpm and 24.5 mph, and at 4,000 rpm it ran 31.0 mph on 12.9 gph. The 2019 test was almost identical: 48.1 mph top, 2.58 mpg at 25.3 mph, and 30.6 mph at 4,000 rpm on 12.5 gph.
The July 2025 test is different. The boat weighed 8,124 pounds as tested with 60 gallons of fuel, more than 1,600 pounds heavier than in 2018, and Sea Hunt's published dry weight had risen from 4,700 to 6,100 pounds. It took 5.0 seconds to plane and 9.3 seconds to reach 30 mph, topped out at 47.0 mph, and cruised at 28.7 mph on 13.6 gph (2.11 mpg) at 4,000 rpm. Sea Hunt has not published an explanation, but the standard equipment list now includes a fiberglass T-top, windlass, head and bigger electronics, all of which add weight.
The practical takeaway: a current Gamefish 25 on twin F150s is a 28 to 34 mph cruiser, not a 35 to 40 mph one. Buyers who want the older boat's snap should order the twin F200 option.
What 21, 24 and 60 degrees mean on the water
Sea Hunt lists the Gamefish 25's deadrise as 21 degrees at the transom, 24 amidships and 60 at the entry. That is a genuine offshore bottom, sharper forward than the Ultra series and deeper aft than the BX bay boats. Combined with a 9-foot 2-inch beam, which is wide for the length, it gives a boat that rides softly in a 2- to 3-foot chop and stays stable at rest for bottom fishing.
The beam and weight do have a cost on the road. At 9 feet 2 inches the Gamefish 25 exceeds the 8-foot 6-inch standard trailer width, so most states will want an oversize permit, and with fuel, engines and a tandem trailer it is a solid three-quarter-ton truck load.
Fish boxes, wells and the storage count
The bow holds two 148-quart storage compartments under the forward cushions and a 140-quart in-floor locker, and the cockpit has port and starboard fish boxes rated at 200 quarts. Bait goes in a 35-gallon livewell built into the standard bait tank leaning post with captain's chairs and a 16-gallon transom well; a recirculating option is worth ordering for warm-water live bait.
Family details are built in rather than added on: bow backrests and bolsters, a telescoping bow table, a rear bench seat and a 19-gallon freshwater system. Kingfish rod holders, a Gemlux outrigger kit with shade, a side entry ladder and an aluminum leaning post with a cooler slide are the popular options. For covers, Sea Hunt points owners to Atlantic Coast Canvas, which makes the console, leaning post and storage covers that buyers often search for as Sea Hunt 25 Gamefish boat canvas.
- Bow storage: 2 x 148 qt; in-floor storage 140 qt
- Fish boxes: port and starboard, 200 qt
- Livewells: 35 gal leaning post plus 16 gal transom
- Fuel 145 gal; freshwater 19 gal
Twin F150s or twin F200s
The standard twin F150 XSA2s are 2.8-liter four-cylinders swinging 14 1/4 by 18-inch Reliance stainless props, and on the 2025 test they reached 47.0 mph at 5,900 rpm burning 30.0 gph. They are economical and simple, and twin 150s on a 25-footer give genuine get-home redundancy.
The optional twin F200 XSA2s use the same block family at a higher output, bringing the boat to its 400 hp rating. Yamaha has not published a Gamefish 25 bulletin with F200s, so we cannot quote numbers, but on a boat that has gained this much weight the extra 100 hp is the upgrade we would choose, especially for loaded offshore runs with four anglers and full wells.
Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 for sale: reading the listings
Because Sea Hunt builds in volume and sells through a large dealer network, the Gamefish 25 is one of the easier 25-foot center consoles to find used. Sea Hunt's 2010-era page offered Yamaha performance data for both twin F150s and a single F250, so do not assume every listing is a twin. The 2018 and 2019 Yamaha tests used the earlier F150XCA, while the 2025 boat carried the F150 XSA2 with electric steering.
Price differences between similar years usually come down to engine hours, electronics, and whether a T-top, windlass and head are fitted. A fresh survey, a compression test on both engines and a close look at the T-top mounts and stringer area matter more than cosmetic condition.
Running costs and ownership
At the 2025 test's 4,000 rpm cruise of 13.6 gph, a 50-mile day uses around 25 gallons. Twin 150s are among the cheapest outboards to service, and the boat's dealer network makes warranty work straightforward. Expect roughly $8,000 to $17,000 a year for fuel, maintenance, insurance and storage, before depreciation.

How much does a Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 cost?
Sea Hunt's site lists the Gamefish 25 starting at $158,568 with twin Yamaha F150s, a fiberglass T-top, a 12-inch Garmin, a windlass and a china head included. Twin F200s, a second display, autopilot or Helm Master and outriggers take most new boats toward $180,000 to $195,000 with freight and prep. On the used market, engine hours and whether the boat has Yamaha's newer electric-steering F150s matter more than model year alone.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Sea Hunt Gamefish 25
The Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 remains the yardstick for how much offshore center console a buyer can get for the money: twin engines, a real 24-degree midship bottom, and the T-top, windlass, head and electronics included in the starting price. Yamaha's own tests show the newer, heavier boats are a few mph slower than the 2018 version, so order the twin F200s if performance matters. As a used buy it is easy to find, easy to service and easy to sell, which is exactly what most first-time offshore owners need.
