Used Scout boats for sale, and why the 215 XSF is the entry point

If you are browsing used Scout boats for sale, the 215 XSF is where the brand's center-console range begins, and it is the Scout you will see most often at launch ramps. It is 21 feet 6 inches long with an 8-foot 6-inch beam, built with Scout's usual hand-laid fiberglass and finish, and it costs a fraction of the LXF models that made Scout famous. For many buyers it is the cheapest way to own a boat from the Summerville, South Carolina, builder.

Scout still lists the 215 XSF as a 2026 model, though with a note about limited availability. That makes the used market the main source for most buyers, and fortunately there are nearly ten model years to choose from.

Replacing the 210, the September 2016 debut

Scout introduces new hulls to its dealers and the press every September, and the 215 XSF debuted that way on September 15, 2016, in Charleston, South Carolina. Sport Fishing's first impression was simple: this is a big 21-footer. Salt Water Sportsman explained the context, writing that the 215 XSF replaced Scout's venerable 210 center console and calling it a sport utility vessel that would earn its own fan base.

The launch price was $46,495 with a 150 hp Yamaha or Mercury, and the maximum rating at the time was 250 hp. Scout's current flyer lists a 200 hp maximum and a 150 hp recommended rating, so check the capacity plate on any used boat with a big engine.

The NuV3 hull and 20 degrees of deadrise in 21 feet

The 215 XSF rides on Scout's NuV3 hull, which the builder markets as a fuel-saving design, with 20 degrees of transom deadrise. Boating's tester ran the boat in rain, high winds and big chop during Scout's dealer meeting and reported confident handling through wakes, swells and hard turns, with enough stability at midrange speeds that the crew could walk around the deck. That is not something every 21-footer allows.

Construction is 100 percent hand-laid fiberglass with a reverse shoebox hull-to-deck joint and a self-bailing cockpit, so the boat can sit at a dock in a rainstorm without relying on bilge pumps. Dry weight without engine is 2,776 pounds and draft is about 15.75 inches.

F150 or F200, what the bulletins show

Scout publishes performance bulletins for both engine sizes. With a Yamaha F150 at a test weight of 3,640 pounds, the boat reached 45 mph at 6,000 rpm and found its best economy at 22.2 mph and 3,500 rpm on 5.5 gph, or 4.04 mpg. With a Yamaha F200 at 3,785 pounds and a hardtop, it reached 48.3 mph and returned 4.3 mpg at 23.7 mph. A Mercury 150 test recorded 45.8 mph and 4.9 mpg at 19.3 mph.

Real-world numbers are close. Boating saw 43 mph with an F150 in soupy weather, and Sport Fishing recorded 46.1 mph with an F200 that was temporarily fitted with an oversized prop. At 4 mpg, the 82-gallon tank gives a range most owners will never use in a day, which is the real virtue of the hull.

Deck layout, coffin box, 21-gallon baitwell and a real console compartment

Forward of the console sits a cushioned sun lounge over a large insulated coffin box that drains overboard. The bow has wraparound seating with removable backrests, a split stainless bow rail and an anchor locker with a dedicated Danforth hanger. Below the bow seats are dual insulated 36-quart fish boxes, according to Salt Water Sportsman.

Aft, a 21-gallon aerated baitwell with a high-speed pickup sits in the port transom corner, four rod holders line the aft bulkhead, a transom door leads to the starboard swim platform, and port and starboard platforms with a ladder make boarding easy. The standard aluminum leaning post carries a 72-quart Igloo cooler.

Inside the console, a door to port opens to a compartment with access to the helm wiring and battery switch, and room for an optional Porta Potti. Sport Fishing measured 22 inches from the deck to the top of the aft gunwale, which is lower than an offshore boat but fine for inshore and nearshore fishing.

Options that move used prices

Because the 215 XSF is sold lightly equipped, options make a real difference to value. The most important are the top (aluminum T-top, powder-coated T-top or a powder-coated hardtop with integrated windshield and rocket launchers), the Elite leaning post with a Yeti cooler and integrated rod holders, and a SeaStar hydraulic steering upgrade, which Scout requires with the 200 hp engine.

Other options include a removable teak bow table, a folding transom seat, a fresh-water washdown, a recirculating baitwell, Garmin displays, JL Audio speakers, underwater lights and a Midnight Edition package with black powder coating.

From $46,495 to $75,995, the price history

Scout's current $75,995 price includes a Mercury 150, freight to the eastern US, prep, fuel and safety gear, so it is not directly comparable to the 2016 base price, but the trend is obvious: a new 215 XSF costs well over 50 percent more than it did at launch. That has supported used values, and clean late-model boats often sell close to their original sticker.

Buying a used 215 XSF

Annual running costs are low, roughly $3,500 to $8,000 for insurance, service, storage, trailer upkeep and registration plus fuel. Scout boats have a reputation for finish quality, and the 215 is no exception, but used boats vary with how they were stored. Prioritize engine hours and service history, then the condition of upholstery, canvas and gelcoat. Check that 200 hp boats have the required steering upgrade.

Our verdict on the Scout 215 XSF

The Scout 215 XSF is a polished, efficient small center console that punches above its length in ride and finish. It is not the most heavily equipped 21-footer, and its baitwell and gunwale height limit it offshore, but the NuV3 hull's economy and stability make it a very satisfying boat for inshore fishing and family days. On the used market, look for an F200 boat with a hardtop and the steering upgrade.
