Pursuit OS 385 for sale, and where it fits in the Offshore line

Anyone searching for a Pursuit OS 385 for sale is shopping one of the longest-running boats in Pursuit's Offshore (OS) series. It arrived as a new model in 2012, owner's manuals run from model year 2012 through 2023, and Pursuit then replaced it with the larger OS 405 Offshore, which Boating described as supplanting the long-standing and popular OS 385. That twelve-year run means there is a broad spread of used boats, from early triple F350 boats to late models with Helm Master joysticks.

Many buyers cross-shop it with the smaller OS 325. The 325 is a 33-footer with twin outboards; the 385 adds a third engine, a beam of 13 feet, 370 gallons of fuel and a cabin with a separate shower stall. If your trips run past the canyon edge or across to the Bahamas with four aboard, the bigger boat earns its extra cost.

Pursuit began in 1977 within Leon Slikkers' S2 Yachts group, builds in Fort Pierce, Florida, and has been owned by Malibu Boats since 2018. Every OS 385 was built in Florida.

Triple Yamahas and the Sport Fishing test

Sport Fishing's Randy Vance tested a launch boat with triple Yamaha F350 outboards and Command Link digital throttles in 2012. He clocked 4.6 seconds to plane and 5.9 seconds to 30 mph, remarkable for a boat weighing more than 18,000 pounds with power, and listed a top speed of 54 mph. He called it a nearly 10-ton fishing-and-cruising machine with the agility of a runabout.

Outside the inlet he found 6-foot seas stacked close together and chose to run at 18 to 20 mph. He reported no hull crackle, cabinetry groans or rattles. Range on the 370-gallon tank was given as 300 miles.

Late boats moved to triple Yamaha F300 V6 outboards with integrated digital electric steering and Helm Master EX, including joystick control with Set Point and autopilot, according to Pursuit's archived spec sheet. Maximum rating stayed at 1,050 hp, which is three F350s.

  • 0 to plane 4.6 seconds, 0 to 30 mph 5.9 seconds (triple F350)
  • Top speed 54 mph (about 47 knots) per Sport Fishing
  • Range about 300 miles from 370 gallons
  • Maximum power 1,050 hp

An 18-degree hull built for the Gulf Stream

The OS 385 rides a deep-V with 18 degrees of deadrise at the transom, less than a pure offshore race hull but a sensible compromise for a heavy express that must also be stable at rest. The archived Pursuit spec lists an infused fiberglass structural grid with molded finish and an integrated bilge water management system, a five-ply resin-infused composite transom with a patented reinforcement grid, and bronze through-hull fittings below the waterline.

Published dimensions changed slightly over the years. Sport Fishing's 2012 test listed 39 feet 5 inches and 18,422 pounds with power; Pursuit's later archive page shows 39 feet 2 inches, a 13-foot beam and 18,600 pounds dry with triple F300s. Draft is 2 feet 1 inch with motors up and 3 feet 6 inches down, and clearance with the hardtop is 10 feet 10 inches from the waterline.

Fishing deck and cold storage

The cockpit is laid out for serious offshore work. A 50-gallon lighted, recirculating livewell sits in the transom, alongside a 75-gallon insulated in-transom fish box that doubles as a refrigerator or freezer with a digital thermostat. Two 68-gallon insulated in-deck fish boxes drain overboard through diaphragm pumps. A 64-quart refrigerator or freezer lives on the starboard side, and Sport Fishing noted a freezer on the mezzanine as well as a tackle station with Plano box holders, three drawers, a bait basin and sink.

Pursuit set the gunwale height for landing fish and put rod lockers at toe level port and starboard. Twin transom lounges fold away to clear the deck. Steps to the hardtop were standard from launch, a hint that owners would want a tower or upper station. Access to seacocks, fuel-water separators and the generator is through large cockpit hatches on double hinges.

Cabin, generator and overnight comfort

Below decks the OS 385 sleeps four. The standard plan has a convertible V-berth that doubles as a dinette, a mid-berth tucked under the helm deck with its own settee and horizontal storage for four rods, and a portside dinette that converts to another berth. An optional plan moves the V-berth forward and turns it athwartships for a more open cabin. The galley has a Corian counter, a 1.1-cubic-foot microwave and a 7.5-cubic-foot refrigerator-freezer, and two 19-inch LED televisions were standard on later boats.

The head is fiberglass with a separate shower behind an acrylic door, a vacuum-flush toilet and an 18-gallon holding tank. Fresh water capacity is 65 gallons.

The piece that turns this from a day boat into a weekender is the 8.0 kW Fischer Panda diesel generator, fed by its own 25-gallon tank, which runs the cabin air conditioning and a 16,000 BTU cockpit unit. Late boats also carried a 5.4 hp bow thruster, a seven-battery system and an anchor windlass with fresh and raw water washdown.

Ownership costs and the triple-engine question

Three outboards mean three sets of annual service, three lower units and eventually three repowers. Budget roughly $35,000 to $70,000 a year for a slip or lift, insurance, Yamaha service, generator maintenance, bottom paint, canvas and electronics, before fuel. A season of offshore trips can easily add several thousand gallons of gasoline on top.

No independent fuel curve for the OS 385 was published by the magazines we consulted, so we do not quote a cruise burn. Treat any listing that quotes very high range at speed with caution and ask for actual engine data from the owner's displays.

Pricing a used OS 385

The 2012 launch price of $535,730 with triple F350s sets a useful anchor. In 2026 we would expect early boats from 2012 to 2014 to sit roughly between $230,000 and $340,000, depending heavily on engine hours, while the last boats from 2022 and 2023 should range about $530,000 to $700,000. Boats that have been repowered with newer Yamahas deserve a premium, and so do boats with documented generator and air conditioning service.

The OS 405 that replaced it is the better boat on paper, with more speed and more cabin, but a well-kept late OS 385 offers most of the experience for considerably less money.

How much does a Pursuit OS 385 Offshore cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$230K to $700K
Yearly running costs$35K to $70K

Sport Fishing listed the 2012 launch boat at $535,730 with triple Yamaha F350s, and prices rose through the run until the OS 405 replaced it. Used values hinge on engine hours and the age of the Yamahas, since a triple repower is a six-figure job. Helm Master joystick, air conditioning, generator hours and electronics separate late boats from early ones.

Our verdict on the Pursuit OS 385 Offshore

The Pursuit OS 385 Offshore is a sensible, well-equipped express sportfisher that combines quick triple-outboard performance with a cabin you can actually spend a night in. Its long production run makes it one of the easier 38 to 40 foot fishing boats to find on the used market, and a late boat with Helm Master and documented engines is a strong buy. Price early boats on the condition of their three Yamahas above all else, and expect the OS 405 to cost a lot more for the incremental gains.
