The HCB 53 Sueños, first sold as the HydraSports Custom 5300 Sueños, is a 52-foot 11-inch center console built in Vonore, Tennessee since 2015, with 1,000 gallons of fuel, a cabin with a queen berth and quad outboards.

  • Offshore anglers moving up from 40-foot consoles
  • Bahamas runs with overnight comfort
  • Owners leaving diesel sportfishermen for outboards
  • Yacht owners wanting a large fishing tender

Why HCB boats for sale start with the 53

If you are browsing HCB boats for sale, the 53 Sueños is the model you will see most and the one that defined the brand. It debuted in February 2015 at the Miami International Boat Show as the HydraSports Custom 5300 Sueños, won Boating's Innovation Award for center console and walkaround fishing boats, and was billed as the largest outboard-powered center console built to that date. Sueño means dream in Spanish, and the boat was the dream of the company's owners, the De La Torre family, led by CEO Elias De La Torre III.

The builder, based in Vonore, Tennessee, later rebranded from HydraSports Custom to HCB and went bigger still with the 65 Estrella in 2018. But the 53 remains in the range today as the 53 Sueños RXV, alongside a 56-foot Sueños GIX that HCB describes as the 53's big brother. Few large center consoles have been built continuously for over a decade, and that longevity tells you the original concept was right.

Compsys construction and a military pedigree

The engineering problem was weight. Company president Alex Leva told Sport Fishing that a 53-foot center console built the traditional way would have weighed at least 40,000 pounds, and simply scaling up the company's 4200 Siesta would have been far too heavy. The solution was Compsys, a labor-intensive structural system previously used on high-performance military craft.

Instead of a thick hull bottom with a few big stringers, the 53 uses a thinner bottom laminate over a dense grid of foam stringers, ribs and bulkheads, almost 60 of them, with no open span larger than about 11 inches. Carbon fiber reinforcements and vinylester resin finish the skeleton. Boating reported that the 53 was the first boat to receive a Structural Composites Mil-Tough rating. The early prototype was even mocked up full size in foam so the team could check console door swing and shower space before building the plug.

The result was a dry weight of 28,323 pounds with four Seven Marine 557s in 2015, only about 2,000 pounds more than the company's 42-footer. Current builder figures quote 31,650 pounds dry and 43,500 pounds wet, which reflects heavier engines and the generators, gyros and air conditioning owners now expect.

Power packages through the years

The 53 has outlived several generations of outboards, which matters a great deal on the used market. Launch boats carried quad Seven Marine 557s and 627s, supercharged V8 outboards that Volvo Penta later discontinued, alongside quad Yamaha F350s and quad Mercury 400s. HCB's current listing offers quad Mercury 600s or quad Yamaha 450s and no maximum horsepower rating.

Customization goes further. Power and Motoryacht described two 2020 builds: a fishing boat on quad Seven Marine 627s that, even at about 45,000 pounds with a Seakeeper 6, a 15 kW diesel generator and enlarged fuel tank, was expected to reach 52 knots, and a luxury boat on five Mercury Racing 450R outboards, a first for HCB.

  • 2015 test, quad Yamaha F350, 350 gallons fuel, six crew: 50.1 mph top at 5,800 rpm
  • Same test: 30 mph in 8 seconds, best economy 0.6 mpg at 21 mph (3,000 rpm)
  • Extreme Edition, quad Seven Marine 627: Boating reported runs close to 70 mph
  • 2019 broker listing, quad Seven 627: 55 knots top and 44 knots cruise claimed

The running surface and ride

HydraSports Custom designed the running surface from scratch rather than adapting an existing bottom. It is a non-stepped deep-V with a uniform running surface and an aft pad, and Leva described its behavior as an automatic transmission: the boat does not need constant tab adjustment and shows no appreciable bow rise coming onto plane. He was candid about the priorities, comparing the 53 to a Mercedes touring car rather than a race boat and stressing range and fishing capability over blistering speed.

Deadrise is 22 degrees at the transom on current builder specs (early magazine specs said 23), and the 13-foot beam is relatively narrow for the length, which helps the hull slice through a head sea. Draft is about 32 inches with engines up and 44 inches down. With 1,000 gallons of fuel, the boat can make long offshore runs that would have required a diesel sportfisherman a generation ago.

A fishing deck built around 400 gallons of fish boxes

This is a serious fishing machine. Sport Fishing's test boat carried two 200-gallon fish boxes with 12-volt chiller plates, twin 60-gallon pressurized transom livewells with acrylic windows, overflow scuppers and openings large enough to shake out a cast net, plus 11 rod holders along each gunwale and seven across the transom. The aft cockpit measured 11 feet 4 inches wide by 8 feet long, room for five anglers at once, and the walkways beside the console were 29 inches wide.

Thoughtful details stand out. Dual inward-opening docking doors on each side of the cockpit let you board or land a fish from either side. The anchor roller sits beneath the anchor locker hatch with a vertical windlass, so the skipper can see the anchor is secure and there is no hole in the bow to take water. Latching hatches are insulated Frigid Rigid boxes.

Cabin, helm and bow lounge

Inside the console, the 53 has a cabin with a queen berth, a galley, generous storage and a separate head and shower compartment, all air-conditioned. It is a day-and-weekend space rather than a long-range cruising cabin, but it makes Bahamas overnights genuinely comfortable.

The helm deck seats three across in captain's chairs with seating for three more behind, and the bow has forward-facing loungers and a power-adjustable table that drops to form a sun pad. Remove the cushions and the bow becomes a fishing platform again. Custom builds have gone well beyond the standard, with air-conditioned mezzanine seating, summer kitchens, 72-inch pop-up televisions and 56-speaker audio systems.

Running costs and the used HCB market

Four or five large outboards, a generator, a gyro and air conditioning add up. Budget roughly $60,000 to $150,000 a year for dockage for a 53-foot boat, insurance, outboard and generator service, bottom work, electronics and fuel, with professional captaining extra. Filling 1,000 gallons of gasoline is itself a four-figure event.

Used prices depend heavily on power. Yachting's brokerage pages featured a 2019 53 Sueños on quad Seven Marine 627s with about 500 hours and a Seakeeper 5 at $749,999, which is a reasonable anchor for early boats. Later hulls on current Mercury or Yamaha power, with gyros and generators, sit well above that. Because every boat is customized, compare equipment lists line by line rather than by year.

How much does a HCB 53 Sueños cost?

New, typical sail-awayNo longer built
Used, typical asking$600K to $1.6M
Yearly running costs$60K to $150K

HCB prices each 53 to order and does not publish a base price, and custom work alone can exceed $100,000 per boat. A 2019 boat on low-hour quad Seven Marine 627s was listed at $749,999, a useful anchor for early hulls; later boats on Mercury V12 or Yamaha XTO power command substantially more. Engine package and hours, Seakeeper and generator fit, and the quality of custom work drive value.

Our verdict on the HCB 53 Sueños

The HCB 53 Sueños is the boat that proved a 50-foot outboard center console could be light, fast, fishable and comfortable at the same time, and it has aged better than many newer rivals. Its narrow beam and custom-build complexity are real trade-offs, and early boats on Seven Marine power need careful thought. For an angler who wants long range, a serious cockpit and a cabin for the Bahamas without a diesel engine room, a well-documented 53 remains one of the strongest buys in the mega console class.
