The Grady White 336 Canyon, an evolution rather than a revolution
Power and Motoryacht introduced the Grady White 336 Canyon in its December 2007 issue as a new 33-footer from the North Carolina builder, built as a fish chaser with twin 250 hp Yamahas as standard and twin 350s optional. Grady-White says the model launched in 2008 and that it has sold hundreds since. Rather than replacing it, Grady has kept updating it; Power and Motoryacht reported that 2020 marked the model's second refresh, and the 336 is still in the 2027 lineup.
That continuity matters if you are shopping used, because a 2009 Canyon 336 and a 2025 Canyon 336 share a name and a hull form but differ in power, helm design, fuel capacity and price by several hundred thousand dollars. Grady-White itself has been in Greenville since its founding in 1959, was owned by Eddie Smith from 1968, and in July 2026 moved into a perpetual purpose trust that keeps the company independent and in North Carolina.
What the SeaV2 hull does for a 33-footer
Every 336 rides on Grady's SeaV2 bottom, developed with C. Raymond Hunt Associates. Deadrise is never the same at any two points along the keel: 20 degrees at the transom, about 30 degrees amidships, and very fine at the bow, with wide chines for stability at rest and when trolling. Power and Motoryacht noted that when Grady reviewed the 336 for its 2020 update, the hull was the one thing crossed off the change list immediately.
Combined with an 11-foot 7-inch beam, which Sport Fishing pointed out is generous for the class, the result is a boat that stays dry and settles quickly on the drift. Like all Grady-Whites, the 336 is foam filled and built to be unsinkable, with a truly self-bailing cockpit.
Three eras of power, from twin 250s to twin XTOs
Launch boats came with twin Yamaha 250s as standard and twin 350s as an option. Sport Fishing's 2020 buyers guide listed a 900 hp maximum and Yamaha's XTO Offshore 425 as a new choice, and Power and Motoryacht described the 2020 refresh as allowing triple Yamahas from 300 to 425 hp. Today Grady rates the hull for 1,050 hp and lists two packages: twin Yamaha XTO Offshore 450s or triple Yamaha 350s.
Grady's own test data shows the trade-off clearly. With twin XTO 450s and the boat weighing 14,326 pounds as tested, it reached 53.9 mph at 6,000 rpm with an optimum cruise of 29.0 mph at 3,500 rpm on 22.6 gph, or 1.28 mpg. With triple 350s at 14,964 pounds it reached 58.8 mph at 5,950 rpm and cruised at 31.5 mph at 3,400 rpm on 24.8 gph, 1.27 mpg. The triples are faster and give you redundancy; the twins are lighter, simpler and nearly as efficient. Using 90 percent of the 361-gallon tank at about 1.27 mpg suggests a cruising reach in the low 400s of statute miles.
- Twin XTO 450: 53.9 mph top, 29.0 mph at 22.6 gph best cruise
- Triple F350: 58.8 mph top, 31.5 mph at 24.8 gph best cruise
- Fuel 361 gal on current boats; 2017 boats were listed at 333 gal
- Maximum power 1,050 hp today, 900 hp in 2020
A stand-up head and berth inside the console
The console is a big reason the 336 sells to families as well as anglers. Inside the lockable acrylic door there is a cushioned berth with a flip-up backrest, a stand-up head area with a shower, a Corian counter and sink with a pull-out sprayer, a VacuFlush toilet with a 10-gallon holding tank, vertical storage for six rods, drawers, a fold-down seat and a carbon monoxide detector. Sport Fishing called it a real double berth, and Power and Motoryacht noted that the bench folds down so a couple can overnight.
Options tied to the generator include a 6,000 BTU air conditioner in the console with two outlets at the helm, a 6-gallon water heater and a microwave. A 5 kW diesel generator with its own 12-gallon tank is required for those, as well as for the optional Seakeeper 3 gyro.
Helm, lean bar and the fishing systems
The biggest change in the 2020 refresh was the helm. Earlier boats had a T-top whose legs came down to the deck, a trip hazard when fighting a fish around the console. Current boats use a fiberglass T-top integrated with a full-height laminated glass windshield and an electrically opening center vent, which clears the walkways. Three Command Elite helm chairs sit on a deluxe lean bar, and the flush electronics area takes large displays. Helm Master EX joystick control and a bow thruster are standard.
Behind the chairs, the rigging station holds a 44-gallon insulated livewell with full-column distribution and an 1,100 gph pump, a 104-quart cooler that can be swapped for a 26-gallon livewell or a grill, a freshwater shower, tackle drawers and rod holders. Fish storage is generous: 204-quart insulated boxes port and starboard in the bow and a 291-quart aft box, with an optional refrigerator and freezer conversion. There are 11 gunwale and bow rod holders, five more in the T-top, three horizontal racks, a port cockpit door with a boarding ladder and a foldaway aft bench.
What a Canyon 336 costs to keep
Expect $25,000 to $50,000 a year in insurance, slip or rack storage, outboard service, bottom paint, canvas and fuel for a typical owner. Triple-engine boats cost more to service, and a generator and Seakeeper add their own maintenance schedules. Grady's reputation for resale is one of the strongest in the industry, and Power and Motoryacht reported that loyal 336 owners often trade an older boat for a newer one much as they would a car.
Picking the right year on the used market
For value, a 2010s boat on twin F350s remains a capable offshore center console with the same hull and console layout, though without the integrated windshield and with a smaller fuel tank. For the modern experience, look at 2020 and later boats, which brought the glass windshield, triple-engine options and more fuel. The model and year search terms buyers use, such as 2018 Grady White 336 Canyon, often surface boats from the last years before the refresh, which can be a sweet spot if the engines have been well maintained.

How much does a Grady-White Canyon 336 cost?
Grady-White does not post list prices, so the new range is our estimate, informed by Boating's $909,090 base price for the Express 340, which shares the 336's 33-foot 6-inch length and 11-foot 7-inch beam but adds a full cabin, generator and air conditioning. Used prices split by era: 2008 to 2019 boats on twin F250s or F350s sit at the low end, while 2020 and later boats with the integrated glass windshield and triple 350 or twin XTO 450 power command far more. Engine hours and remaining Yamaha warranty move values more than cosmetic condition.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Grady-White Canyon 336
The Grady White 336 Canyon has lasted since 2008 because it does nothing badly. The SeaV2 hull rides softly and stays dry, the console hides a genuine head and berth, and the fishing systems are well thought out. Current boats with the integrated windshield and twin XTO 450 or triple 350 power are excellent and expensive, while 2010s boats on twin F350s remain some of the best-value premium center consoles on the used market. Buy on engine condition first and year second, and expect to get a good share of your money back when you sell.
