The Sunreef 80 is a 78 ft 4 in semi-custom sailing catamaran built by Sunreef Yachts in Gdansk, Poland. The current design followed in about 2018 and the solar-electric 80 Eco launched in 2022. Recent Eco listings run from about 6.7 million euros to $11.1 million.
- Families wanting superyacht space in under 80 feet
- Crewed charter programs
- Owners prioritizing silent, solar-powered cruising
Sunreef 80 by the numbers
- Sail area to displacement
- 35.2Racing level power, needs active reefing as the breeze builds.
- Displacement to length
- 78Ultralight. Built for speed, keep payload to a minimum.
- Theoretical hull speed
- 11.6 knDisplacement hull speed for the waterline. Light catamarans regularly sail faster than this because their slim hulls do not make a large bow wave.
- Length to beam ratio
- 2.07 : 1Catamaran overall proportions. Wider platforms resist pitching and heel.
Sunreef 80: where an 80 foot catamaran meets superyacht living
The Sunreef 80 is the boat most people mean when they search for an 80 foot catamaran: a semi-custom sailing yacht with a beam of 37 ft 10 in, a full flybridge and interior volume no monohull of the same length can approach. Sunreef quotes 340 square meters of living space, and the owner of the 80 Gaya, delivered in 2018, was told her interior alone covered 3,695 sq ft.
Sunreef Yachts was founded in 2000 by Frenchman Francis Lapp and his son Nicolas, in Gdansk, Poland, in the same shipyard where the Solidarity movement was born. It began with a 60 foot sailing catamaran and grew into the leading builder of luxury multihulls, adding power catamarans, a second facility in the UAE and an Eco line with integrated solar panels. The 80 sits between the Sunreef 70 and the 100 Infinity in the sailing range.
Two other boats share the number, so be careful when comparing listings. Sunreef built an earlier carbon 80 foot sailing cat named Levante around 2013, and since 2019 it has built the 80 Sunreef Power, a motor catamaran with a 39 ft 4 in beam, 4,225 gallons of diesel and a claimed 24 knot top speed with optional 1,200 hp MANs, the second hull of which went to Rafael Nadal.
Ten feet of freeboard and a curved superstructure
When Multihulls World reviewed the current-generation 80, it noted Sunreef's shift away from the boxy Supreme range toward more curved, aerodynamic lines across a new family from 50 to 80 feet. The defining feature is freeboard: from the waterline to the deck edge measures about three meters (ten feet), which keeps the bridgedeck high and dry offshore and creates the volume for full-height cabins in the hulls.
Sunreef lists a displacement of about 32.8 tonnes, a mast close to 110 ft tall, a 200 square meter main and a 155 square meter genoa, with a 300 square meter gennaker and 380 square meter spinnaker optional. Sunreef does the naval architecture and design in house. The latest version adopts a new superstructure inspired by the brand's NEXT range, with a shorter house that enlarges the aft cockpit, reshaped trampolines or bow sun pads, and an Ocean Lounge aft with folding platforms and a garage under the sofa for a personal watercraft.
The 80 Eco: solar skins, electric motors and hydrogeneration
Sunreef launched the 80 Eco in early 2022. Its ultralight solar panels are built into the hull sides, mast, superstructure and bimini roof, feeding a large battery bank that drives twin electric motors, rated at 180 kW each on the launch boat. Under sail, the freewheeling propellers act as hydrogenerators to recharge the batteries. Francis Lapp described the aim as full autonomy from the sun, water and wind.
Real-world numbers vary with the build. The 2025 80 Eco Otoctone is listed with two 120 kW motors and a cruising speed of about 6 knots and top speed of 10 knots under electric power, with generators as backup and an 18 kW shore charger. A 2023 Eco in Palma is listed with two 160 kW motors. The classic diesel version uses twin engines of 249 to 280 hp, and Sunreef quotes fuel capacity of 2,400 liters, expandable to 6,000 liters for long-range cruising.
For owners, the Eco's benefits are silent motoring, generator-free nights at anchor and a quieter, emissions-free experience for charter guests. The trade-offs are cost, the complexity of a high-voltage system and less independence than diesel on long motoring legs.
Four guest suites, crew forward, and almost any layout you like
Sunreef treats the hulls as blank canvases, and no two 80s are identical. Gaya, for a repeat owner stepping up from a Sunreef 70, has four guest staterooms for eight guests in grays and blacks, light oak soles, ebony veneers and a master head in dark quartz. Otoctone has a master with a king berth, dressing area and rain shower, a VIP forward of it in the starboard hull, and two family cabins to port including one with a double and one with a single plus bunk.
The main deck is the showpiece. The saloon opens to the bow terrace and aft cockpit, the galley and dining areas are customizable, and the flybridge typically has a helm, dining and sun pads, with options such as a hot tub on the power version. A hydraulic aft platform carries the tender and becomes a beach club at anchor. Crew quarters with their own galley access are usually placed in a hull or forward.
Owner-operated it is not: crew, charter and running costs
An 80 foot, 37 ft 10 in wide catamaran needs professional crew, typically a captain, engineer, chef and stewardess, and a berth that can take its beam, which in the Caribbean, Florida and the Mediterranean is usually at superyacht marinas priced by the foot and by the beam. Haul-outs need a large travelift or a shipyard.
We estimate annual running costs of roughly $550,000 to $1 million including crew, insurance, berthing, maintenance and refit reserves, excluding depreciation. Many owners offset part of that with crewed charter, where the volume of an 80 foot catamaran is a big selling point and the Eco's silent running is a marketing advantage.
Reading Sunreef 80 prices
Sunreef does not publish prices, and the semi-custom nature of the boats makes comparison difficult. Two recent listings bracket the Eco market: a 2023 Sunreef 80 Eco offered in Palma de Mallorca at 6.7 million euros, and the 2025 80 Eco Otoctone in La Seyne-sur-Mer at $11.117 million. Expect a new, well-specified 80 to cost roughly $9 million to $14 million depending on Eco systems, interior and toys.
Older diesel 80s should sell for considerably less, which can make them good value for buyers who prioritize space over electric propulsion. In every case, a specialist survey of systems, structure and paperwork, including charter licensing and VAT status for European boats, is essential.
What sailing an 80 foot catamaran is like
With a 200 square meter main and powered winches, the 80 is a sailing yacht, not a motor yacht with a mast. Its high freeboard and wide stance make it stable and dry, and its fixed keels keep systems simple compared with daggerboard performance cats like the one-off Catana 90 or carbon Gunboats. Expect comfortable cruising rather than racing: heavy volume and luxury fit-out put the emphasis on smooth passages and spectacular anchorages.
For buyers torn between sail and power, Sunreef's own 80 Power offers the same living concept with planing speed. The sailing 80 wins on range, quiet passages and the Eco version's energy autonomy.

How much does a Sunreef 80 cost?
Every Sunreef 80 is semi-custom, so equipment and finish swing the price by millions. A 2023 Sunreef 80 Eco has recently been listed in Palma at 6.7 million euros, and a 2025 80 Eco, Otoctone, at $11.117 million in France, which brackets the market for late boats. Earlier diesel 80s from around 2018 trade below the Eco boats, but we have not seen a recent public listing of one, so that end of the range is our estimate.

Our verdict on the Sunreef 80
The Sunreef 80 is the definitive 80 foot luxury sailing catamaran: unmatched volume, freedom to customize nearly everything and, in Eco form, a credible route to silent, solar-powered cruising. It is a crewed superyacht in all but length, with costs to match. Buy a late Eco if electric cruising and charter appeal matter to you, or a well-kept diesel boat if you want the space and the sailing for millions less.
