The Targa 37 you can buy used is not the one Botnia now builds
Anyone searching for a Targa 37 in 2026 runs into two different boats with one name. The first was built by Botnia Marin in Finland from 1998 to 2025, an extension of the Targa 35, which itself grew out of the Targa 33. Over 27 years it became one of the most recognizable offshore pilothouse boats in Europe, and almost every Targa 37 for sale is one of these.
The second is the all-new Targa 37, which Botnia announced in December 2025 as the first complete redevelopment of the model since 1998. It made its world premiere at the Uiva Flytande in-water show in Helsinki in August 2026, a Coupe version followed in September, and Botnia says the boat will appear at shows in Europe and the United States through the autumn.
This page covers both: what the classic boat is like to buy and own, and what the new one changes. One more naming trap: Fairline also sold a Targa 37 sport cruiser, an entirely different British boat. Check the builder on every listing.
The classic 1998 to 2025 boat, a Land Rover Defender afloat
The original Targa 37 measures 40 feet 6 inches overall on a 36-foot 11-inch hull, with an 11-foot 6-inch beam shared with the Targa 35. Motor Boat & Yachting's used-boat guide describes the Targa ethos: take a high-bulwarked deep-V hull, put a flat deck in it and place a rectangular wheelhouse in the middle. The result is a classic Finnish walkaround, with an open aft deck, deep, wide passages on each side of the wheelhouse and a bow cockpit ahead of it. A small exterior helm with seating for three sits on the trailing edge of the wheelhouse roof.
The layout evolved under the skin over the years. Botnia introduced a Comfort Fore Cabin (CFC) version, which replaced the forward cockpit with a cozier forecabin and its own en suite, a change Motor Boat & Yachting covered at the Southampton show. Engines changed with Volvo Penta's diesel generations. Ask any seller which layout and which engines a particular boat carries, since two classic 37s can be very different boats inside.
Power & Motoryacht's walkthrough summed up the appeal for American buyers: the Targa 37 feels like what a Nordic crossover such as an Axopar grows into when its owners want to cruise for longer stretches, with European styling that is not out of place in US waters.
What the 2026 redesign actually changes
The new boat starts with a new planing hull. Beam grows to 12 feet 4 inches, which Botnia says improves stability and interior volume, and length overall is 41 feet 2 inches on a 37-foot 6-inch hull. Draft stays at about 3 feet 7 inches. Weight is about 9,000 kilograms (roughly 19,800 pounds), fuel capacity is 1,350 liters (357 gallons) and water is 250 liters.
Inside, the biggest change is the galley. The classic boat's compact forward galley gives way to a full-size galley in the main cabin framed in teak, with a sliding chopping board that doubles as a sink cover. Opposite is a dinette that converts to a berth, with dedicated storage for Targa-branded crockery. The aft cabin gets a large hull window with an opening port, and there are toilets in both cabins, the aft one with a glass-door shower.
On deck, bulwark gates on both sides of the aft deck, an oversized bathing platform with access to the sterndrives, dedicated fender storage and an expanded flybridge with reversible seating update the classic plan. Motor Boat & Yachting's editor put it neatly: if the old boat was a Land Rover Defender, the new one leans toward the Range Rover. The Coupe version replaces the flybridge with a lower roof, a large opening hatch and a glass panel.
- Beam up from 11 feet 6 inches to 12 feet 4 inches
- Full-size galley moved into the main cabin
- Large hull window in the aft cabin
- Bulwark gates port and starboard
- Flybridge or Coupe roof
Twin D6 power and what it promises
The 2026 Targa 37 is offered only with twin Volvo Penta D6 diesels on sterndrives, from 340 to 480 hp per side, a total of 680 to 960 hp. Botnia quotes top speeds of 36 to 44 knots and cruising speeds of 30 to 36 knots across that range. Fuel consumption data was not yet available when we checked the builder's specification in October 2026, so we have not published a fuel figure; expect sea-trial numbers from European magazines over the winter.
Standard equipment points at all-weather use: interceptor trim tabs, an 80-kilogram bow thruster with backup battery, a defroster and heater running off the engines, windscreen wipers with washers, three automatic and two manual bilge pumps and an automatic engine-room extinguisher.
Buying a used classic Targa 37
Most used classic 37s are in Finland, Sweden, Norway and the UK, with a handful in North America. Prices span from older boats in the low hundreds of thousands of dollars to late-model examples well over half a million; one 2021 boat was asking 560,000 euros. Because Targas are built in small numbers and owners keep them, good examples sell quickly and depreciate slowly.
Survey priorities are the sterndrives and their bellows, the condition of the teak rails and bulwark caps, the pilothouse door seals and window gaskets, and the engine-room installation. Importing a European boat to the US adds shipping, duty and the work of bringing a CE-built boat into US compliance, so compare the landed cost with a boat already here.
Running costs and who should buy which 37
Budget roughly $35,000 to $70,000 a year for a 40 to 45-foot slip, insurance, twin-sterndrive service, bottom work, canvas and electronics, plus fuel at planing speeds. East Coast Yacht Sales in Mystic, Connecticut, handles Targa in the eastern US.
Buy a classic 37 if you want proven Targa toughness at a lower price and can live with the older, more compact galley. Wait for the new 37 if interior space and a modern hull matter more, and you are prepared to pay a first-year premium for a boat with no long-term track record yet.

How much does a Targa 37 cost?
Botnia Marin has not published a US price for the all-new 2026 Targa 37, so the new range is our estimate positioned below the Targa 41, which Motor Boat & Yachting priced from 658,310 pounds ex VAT. The used market is almost entirely the 1998 to 2025 generation; a 2021 boat we found was asking 560,000 euros in Europe. Engine package, CFC fore cabin, flybridge versus the new Coupe, joystick, generator and air conditioning drive value, along with whether the boat has been in fresh or salt water.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Targa 37
The classic Targa 37 is one of the great offshore pilothouse boats, rugged, dry and proven over 27 years, and a well-kept used one is a smart buy for anyone who cruises in real weather. The 2026 redesign keeps that character while finally giving the boat the beam, galley and light it always lacked. Buy the classic for value and proven toughness; buy the new one for comfort, once sea-trial numbers confirm what Botnia promises.
