- Commuting between islands
- Owners who want outboard simplicity
Why the Axopar 37 became the default fast cabin boat
The Axopar 37 debuted at the Sanctuary Cove show in Australia in 2016 and quickly became one of the most copied boats of the decade. Axopar, a young Finnish brand co-founded in 2014 by Jan-Erik Viitala and building its boats in Poland, took the long, narrow, stepped hull it had proven on the Axopar 28, stretched it to 37 feet and offered it in several deck versions: T-Top, Sun-Top, Spyder and the XC Cross Cabin covered here.
The XC is the most practical of the family. It encloses the helm and passenger seats in a glass wheelhouse, keeps a large open cockpit aft, and adds a proper forward cabin with an enclosed head. For buyers in New England, the Pacific Northwest, the Great Lakes or northern Europe, that combination of 45-plus knots, a dry wheelhouse and a place to sleep made the 37 XC a natural choice.
For the 2026 model year Axopar has moved on to the Axopar 38 Cross Cabin, so the 37 is now a used-market boat. That is good news for buyers, because there are plenty of them and the platform matured well over its production run.

A narrow stepped hull that likes rough water
The Axopar recipe is a slim hull with a very fine entry and twin steps aft. At 37 feet 9 inches long and just 11 feet wide, the 37 has a length-to-beam ratio closer to an offshore race boat than to a typical cruiser. The result is a soft ride into a head sea and low drag at speed.
The steps ventilate the running surface and reduce wetted area, which is why the boat reaches the high 40s on only 600 horsepower. The flip side is that stepped hulls demand respect in tight turns at full speed. Trim the motors down before carving hard, and the boat behaves well.
The 2020 second-generation update, marketed as the Revolution, refined the running surfaces and the interior; co-founder Jan-Erik Viitala told Power and Motoryacht that 98 percent of the parts were redone. If your budget stretches, a Revolution-era boat is worth the premium for the improved ride and finish.
Real test numbers with twin 300 Verados
BoatTEST measured an Axopar 37 XC Revolution with twin 300 horsepower Mercury Verado V8s at 48.5 knots, about 55.8 mph, at 6,000 rpm, burning 47.9 gallons per hour. Time to plane was just 4.0 seconds. At 3,000 rpm the boat made 16 knots at 12.3 gph, and at idle it burned only 1.4 gph.
Most owners settle into a cruise of 30 to 35 knots, and the BoatTEST numbers show why: 31.5 knots at 4,000 rpm on 21.1 gph, and 36.1 knots at 4,500 rpm on 25.1 gph. On 90 percent of the 193 gallons, that works out to roughly 250 to 260 nautical miles of range, which is enough for Boston to Provincetown and back with fuel to spare, or two round trips from Miami to Bimini.
Weight was 8,311 pounds dry and 10,564 pounds as tested, light enough for a dry stack in many markets, which is a big cost saver.
Inside the Cross Cabin wheelhouse
The XC wheelhouse has the helm to starboard with a companion seat beside it and bench seating behind. Many boats have a sliding sunroof, and the side windows open, so the space can be closed in for a cold morning and opened up on a warm afternoon. Visibility forward is excellent because the windshield is near vertical.
The aft cockpit is open and flexible, with a wet bar or seating modules depending on specification. Axopar built its brand on modular options, so no two used boats are configured quite the same. Read each listing closely, because one 37 XC may have a galley module and fishing setup while the next has a large sun pad and swim platform extensions.
Axopar 37 cabin layouts and passenger capacity
Forward, down a few steps, is a cabin with a double berth and an enclosed head with a marine toilet and sink. It is comfortable for a couple on a weekend.
The option that changes the boat is the aft cabin, a second sleeping area under the cockpit floor. With it the 37 XC sleeps four, making it a real family weekender. Headroom aft is limited, so it suits children better than adults.
Passenger capacity is 10 people. That is plenty for a day out, but the XC is most comfortable with six to eight aboard, when everyone has a seat behind the glass.
- Passenger capacity: 10
- Berths: 2 standard, 4 with the optional aft cabin
- Enclosed head forward
- Optional sunroof, galley module, heating and swim platform extensions
Sun-Top, Spyder and the Brabus connection
Shoppers searching for an Axopar 37 will see several variants. The Sun-Top and T-Top versions trade the enclosed wheelhouse for an open helm under a fixed top, which suits Florida and the Mediterranean better. The Spyder is the open sport version. The XC Cross Cabin is the cold-water and family pick.
The 37 hull also became the basis of the Brabus Shadow 800, a 36-foot-9-inch collaboration between Axopar and the German tuning house with twin 400 hp Verados, carbon trim and a launch price of about $494,000 for an initial run of 20 boats. The Brabus boats carry more power, bespoke interiors and much higher prices, but underneath they share the same proven hull.
Ownership costs and the used 37 market
Annual running costs, excluding depreciation, typically fall between $25,000 and $50,000, covering insurance, storage, outboard service, bottom paint and fuel. Dry stack storage can cut that substantially compared with a wet slip.
Used prices in 2026 run from about $200,000 for early 2016 and 2017 boats to $460,000 for late, well-optioned examples. Pay attention to outboard hours and warranty history. A pair of Verados with 800 or more hours is not a problem if maintained, but repowering a 37 costs a lot, so price it in.
Axopar's dealer network in the US is solid in the Northeast and Florida. The 38 Cross Cabin replaced the 37 with an upgraded forward galley and more configurations, but the 37 remains the better value for most buyers.

How much does a Axopar 37 XC Cross Cabin cost?
Values depend on year, engine hours and especially the options list, because Axopar sold the 37 with a very long menu of add-ons. The aft cabin, sliding sunroof, upgraded electronics, heating for northern markets and the Revolution-era hull and interior updates from about 2020 all lift prices. Boats with twin 300 Verados and documented warranty service are the easiest to resell in the US.
Estimate your yearly cost
A planning estimate using common rules of thumb: insurance near 1.5 percent of value, maintenance near 3 percent, haul out and bottom paint by length. Your marina, region and use will move these numbers. Open the full cost calculator.

Compare side by sideOur verdict on the Axopar 37 XC Cross Cabin
The Axopar 37 XC Cross Cabin is the boat that proved a narrow, stepped outboard hull could be fast, efficient and family friendly at the same time. With twin 300s it runs high 40s, cruises economically in the 30s, keeps the crew warm and dry, and with the aft cabin it sleeps four. Now that the 38 has replaced it, a well-kept Revolution-era 37 is one of the smartest fast cabin boats you can buy used.
