The Saxdor 320 that built a company

When people search for the Saxdor 320 they almost always mean the 320 GTO, the open version, and Saxdor calls it its bestselling model for many years. It was only the brand's second boat. Sakari Mattila, who had a hand in founding Aquador, Axopar and XO before starting Saxdor in 2019, launched the 320 GTO in February 2021, a few weeks after the little Saxdor 200 Sport won a Highly Commended at the Motor Boat Awards. Motor Boat & Yachting asked whether it was already the most exciting new boat of 2021, and buyers answered by queuing for build slots.

Five years on, Saxdor builds around 700 boats a year, and in March 2026 Malibu Boats, owner of Cobalt and Pursuit, bought the company in a deal reported at around 150 million euros. Mattila stays on for three years to guide strategy and design. Smaller Saxdors are built in Poland (Power & Motoryacht visited the expanded factory in Elk), and Motor Boat & Yachting reported that some production may move to the US to free up Polish capacity. For a 320 GTO buyer the takeaway is simple: the company behind the boat is now bigger, better funded and more American.

Fold-down terraces and a cockpit that rearranges itself

The feature that sold the 320 GTO is the pair of fold-down side terraces, standard from the start, which turn the cockpit into something much wider at anchor. Power & Motoryacht noted how solid they feel underfoot, with no flex or creaks. Between them is a dining settee for six with removable seats, and the backrests flip so the same benches face forward at speed or face each other for lunch. A sliding bench and table drop let the dinette become a sunbed.

Saxdor kept the wet bar and the sunpads independent of each other, a detail Motor Boat & Yachting praised because on some rivals you cannot cook while someone sunbathes. The galley module at the back of the console has a sink and a cooktop (Power & Motoryacht saw a three-burner unit). The foredeck carries an extended sunpad, flat walking space for line handling and a deep anchor locker under the sole. A six-speaker Fusion system and an optional ski bar complete the sandbar kit.

Twin steps, twin Mercurys and 50-plus knots

The hull is a twin-stepped deep-V with 21 degrees of deadrise, resin infused for a lighter and stiffer molding. Saxdor's current spec sheet covers 400 to 600 hp. In Europe the base price buys twin Mercury 200 hp V6s; a single 300 hp V8 gives about 40 knots top and a cruise near 30, and twin Mercury 300s push it well past 50 knots with an optimum cruising band of 20 to 40 knots. Saxdor quotes 32 to 45 knots of cruise, and YachtBuyer's spec summary gives a 52-knot top speed and about 134 nautical miles of range.

The best-documented efficiency figure comes from Motor Boat & Yachting, which recorded 2.7 liters per nautical mile with twin 300s in its 2021 test. That is respectable for the speed, though the Navan S30 later beat it on the same engines. Early Power & Motoryacht coverage of a Cannes show boat listed twin 350 hp Verados and a 56-knot claim, but current Saxdor documentation caps the boat at 600 hp, so treat that as an early configuration rather than a buyable package.

  • Hull: twin-stepped V21, vacuum-infused GRP
  • Power range: 400 to 600 hp, twin outboards for most US boats
  • Single V8 300: about 40 knots top, near 30 knots cruise (builder)
  • Twin V8 300: over 50 knots, 20 to 40 knot cruising band (builder)
  • Fuel economy: 2.7 liters per nm with twin 300s (MBY 2021 test)

At the helm

Motor Boat & Yachting's first test was on an early hand-built prototype, and even that drove well; the tester called it a dream to drive. The twin steps keep the boat flat and give strong grip in turns, the trait Mattila's boats are known for. Power & Motoryacht found a small wheel, twin 12-inch Simrad screens, trim tab controls as standard and good sightlines, with plenty of handholds going forward. Mercury's joystick (JPO) is available for docking.

Like most stepped hulls, it rewards a driver who trims deliberately and eases off before hard turns at high speed. The boat is open, so in cold or wet weather everyone gets wet; that is what the sister 320 GTC with its full-beam wheelhouse, and later the 340 GTWA, are for.

A cabin that works for a weekend

Below, the 320 GTO has a fixed double berth with enough headroom to sit up, and a separate wet room with standing headroom, which Motor Boat & Yachting called an admirable addition on a sporty boat under 34 feet. Large Lewmar hatches bring in light. It sleeps two, and for a couple who want to stay out a night or two it is genuinely usable, though it is not a family cruiser.

320 GTO, 320 GTC or 340 GTWA?

Saxdor now sells three boats on this hull family. The 320 GTO is the open sportsboat, the cheapest and the most fun in summer. The 320 GTC adds a full-beam wheelhouse with an inside galley; Motor Boat & Yachting saw about 43 knots from it on twin 225s. The 340 GTWA adds 1 foot 7 inches, a narrower walkaround pilothouse and an optional aft cabin, and costs about 7 percent more than the 320 GTC in base form. If you boat in Florida or the Gulf, the GTO is the natural pick. If your season is short or you cruise with kids, look at the 340.

Annual running costs for a twin-outboard 33-footer are modest by yacht standards: two engine services, insurance, a slip or dry stack and canvas, roughly $16,000 to $32,000 a year plus fuel.

Buying a used 320 GTO

Plenty of 2021 to 2025 boats are now on the market. Early hulls were built quickly as Saxdor scaled, so look at the terrace hinges, gas struts and seals, deck hardware bedding and any gelcoat cracking around the steps. Check whether the boat has twin 300s or smaller engines, because that changes both performance and value. The Malibu ownership should help parts and warranty support in the US.

How much does a Saxdor 320 GTO cost?

New, typical sail-away$160K to $270K
Used, typical asking$110K to $220K
Yearly running costs$16K to $32K

Saxdor lists the 320 GTO from 149,000 euros before VAT with twin 200 hp V6s, and at its 2021 launch Motor Boat & Yachting quoted 105,626 pounds including VAT with a single 300. US pricing through dealers tracks the euro base, and Power & Motoryacht put the slightly larger 340 GTWA at about $170,000, so a lightly optioned 320 GTO lands in the $160,000s while a twin-300 boat with joystick, radar and the galley pack approaches $270,000. Engines are the biggest value driver on the used market; twin 300 boats sell fastest.

Our verdict on the Saxdor 320 GTO

The Saxdor 320 GTO is the boat that proved Sakari Mattila could do it a fourth time. Fold-down terraces, a cockpit that rearranges in seconds, a real wet room and 50-plus knots on twin 300s add up to the most fun-per-dollar boat in its class. It is an open boat with one cabin, and early hulls deserve a careful survey, but with Malibu now behind the brand, it remains the benchmark for a fast, sociable 33-footer.
