Bering Yachts models

Alexei Mikhailov started Bering Yachts with a steel 50-footer built in China in 2007. The company now builds semi-custom steel explorers in Antalya, Turkey, and Burgas, Bulgaria, including the Bering 77.

Known for
  • Steel-hulled displacement explorer yachts
  • Semi-custom builds, many kept below 24 meters
  • A yard in the Antalya Free Zone
  • Ocean range for owners running with little or no crew

From Magadan to the Mediterranean

Few yacht builders started out running fishing boats in the North Pacific. Alexei Mikhailov did. Born in Russia, he owned a fishing fleet out of Magadan before turning to yachts, and he named his company for the sea that taught him how hard the ocean can be.

Bering dates its own story to 2007, when it completed an all-metal 50-footer in Foshan, China. Six more boats followed there before the company relocated to Turkey in 2017. It now works out of the Antalya Free Zone and a second shipyard in Burgas, Bulgaria, employing more than 250 craftsmen. Bering lists its group headquarters in the United States and keeps offices in Germany and Australia.

Steel, redundancy and the 24-meter line

Mikhailov's commercial background shows in the specification sheet. Hulls are steel and superstructures aluminum, tanks are large, critical systems are duplicated and interior materials are chosen for fire resistance. The goal is a yacht that can keep going a long way from help.

Many Bering models stop just short of 24 meters on purpose. Staying under that size keeps a boat practical for an owner who runs it with a partner or a very small crew. The yard also publishes concepts of 145 feet and more for clients who want something larger.

Where the Bering 77 sits in the range

The Bering 77 grew out of demand from people who already owned a Bering. It was announced in 2015 as a step up from the Bering 65, with two existing customers placing orders, and the first delivered hull, Veronika, went into the water at Antalya in 2021. In 2026 the yard showed an updated version with four cabins and more deck space.

That progression is typical of Bering: models evolve through repeat clients rather than annual model-year changes. Hull form, tankage, power and range figures for both generations are covered on our Bering 77 page.

Buying a Bering from the United States

With only a handful of boats in build at any time, there is little public sales history, and both new and used prices are open to negotiation. A sound secondhand Bering can spare a buyer two or more years of waiting on a new build, and condition, class status and paperwork move the price more than launch year.

Steel shrugs off impacts but punishes neglect, so put thickness readings and coatings ahead of cosmetics on any survey. A boat lying in the Mediterranean may also come with VAT, flag and import issues that need resolving before closing.

  • Ultrasonic gauging of plating, bilges, tank spaces and skegs.
  • Galvanic corrosion where steel meets aluminum.
  • Current class certificates and documentation.
  • Service logs for engines, generators, stabilizers and thrusters.
