Dutch design for the day boat crowd

Wajer is a Dutch builder, founded in 1992, that has carved out a distinctive niche in day yachts. Its boats have long, low profiles, clean decks and contemporary interiors, built for fast runs to a beach club or lunch spot rather than long passages. They have become a familiar sight in the Mediterranean and increasingly in South Florida.

The current range includes the Wajer 38, 44, 55 and 77, with S versions offering open layouts and HT versions adding hardtops. Several models are also used as tenders to large superyachts, which says a lot about their build quality and design. The three we cover show the full spread, from a 38-foot tender to a 77-foot flagship with crew quarters.

The Wajer 38 S, a tender that became a day boat

The Wajer 38 S arrived in 2015 as a center-helm version of the Wajer 38, designed for day use and for superyacht owners who want a tender with real style. There is no cabin, only a day head inside the console, and the emphasis is on speed and an open deck. Earlier boats run twin Volvo Penta diesels on IPS pods with joystick docking. In 2024 Wajer debuted an updated 38 S at Cannes with triple Mercury Verado V10 outboards, its first outboard boat, which pushed top speeds into the 50-knot range and brought it to Fort Lauderdale later that year. Buyers choosing between the two should weigh diesel range and pod docking against outboard speed and simpler servicing.

The Wajer 55 and how Wajer thinks about owners

The Wajer 55 is the brand's most important model in the US. Launched in 2016 as the flagship of its day, it combines a large sun deck, an open cockpit with a dining area and a well-finished two-cabin layout below with fast performance from triple Volvo Penta IPS pods, a 28-knot cruise and a 38-knot top speed. The open 55 S and the sliding-roof 55 HT followed in 2019, and a redesigned 55 that Wajer describes as about 90 percent new was unveiled in May 2025. It is a boat for entertaining and stylish day trips, with enough comfort for an overnight stay.

Wajer's other distinguishing feature is its owner program. Wajer Care offers maintenance packages, and the company runs owner hubs, including one in Miami, where boats can be serviced and owners can access support. That model is designed to make ownership easier for buyers who want a turnkey experience.

The Wajer 77, a day boat with guest suites

The Wajer 77 took over as flagship in 2021, unveiled by livestream from Amsterdam and launched off Saint-Tropez with more than 17 orders in hand. It stretches the day-yacht idea to near superyacht scale: three guest suites plus a crew cabin, a garage for a jet tender, triple Volvo Penta IPS pods and a top speed of 37 knots. It is the Wajer for owners who want to spend a week aboard, not just an afternoon, and used examples have been asking well over $7 million.

Wajer ownership and resale in the US

Wajer is still a relatively young presence in the US market, so used inventory is limited and resale values are less established than for Riva or Pershing. First-generation 55s from 2016 to 2024 are the most common used Wajers, while the 77 rarely changes hands. Buyers should focus on documentation, service history and the condition of finishes, which are a large part of the appeal.

  • Review engine service records and warranty status.
  • Inspect gelcoat, teak and upholstery for UV and wear damage.
  • Check hardtop and window seals on HT versions.
  • On a 38 S, confirm whether it is an IPS diesel or outboard boat and check the tender history if it served a superyacht.
  • Confirm the boat's specification for US use, including electrical systems.
