Why Viking built Valhalla

Viking Yacht Company, the New Jersey sportfish builder founded by the Healey family, saw its customers buying large outboard center consoles as tenders, tournament boats and weekend toys. Rather than leave that market to others, Viking created Valhalla Boatworks in 2019 to build outboard boats with the same engineering, materials and service standards as its convertibles.

Valhalla operates under the Viking Marine Group umbrella, sharing Viking's production expertise and its service infrastructure, including the Viking Yacht Service Center in Riviera Beach, Florida. For an owner, that is the key selling point: a center console backed by one of the strongest support networks in American boating.

The range and the V-55 flagship

The Valhalla lineup now runs from the V-28 bay boat through the V-29, V-33, V-37, V-41 and V-46 center consoles to the V-55, plus 46 and 55 Sport Yacht versions with more enclosed living space. Each is designed for offshore fishing first, with deep-V hulls, high freeboard, heavy-duty hardtops and engineering that reflects Viking's sportfish heritage.

The Valhalla V-55, which we cover in depth, is the flagship. It is one of the largest outboard center consoles available, built to run to the canyons or Bahamas in comfort, with a cabin, generator and air conditioning, 1,211 gallons of fuel and four or five Mercury Verado V12 600 outboards. It competes directly with the biggest boats from Yellowfin, Freeman and Invincible.

Valhalla boats are expensive, priced at the top of the center console market, but they offer Viking-level finish and systems that buyers in this segment expect.

Resale and used Valhalla checks

As a young brand, Valhalla's used market is still developing, but the Viking name and service network support strong values. Most used boats are only a few years old, so buyers should focus on hours, usage history and the details of the outboard package.

  • Review outboard hours, service and warranty status.
  • Check the hardtop, electronics and wiring for offshore wear.
  • Test the generator, air conditioning and gyro stabilizer if fitted.
  • Inspect fishing systems such as livewells, pumps and rigging.
