Rambo Boats models

Rambo Boats is a very small builder in Eastman, Georgia, with one product, the Rambo 27 fishing boat. It has no tie to the Rambo Marine dealerships and sells straight from its own shop.

Known for
  • A single model, the Rambo 27
  • Hand-laid fiberglass construction
  • Slim, trailer-legal hull proportions
  • Selling direct from a family shop

One name, two unrelated businesses

Type the name into a search bar and two companies come back. The builder covered here works from a shop on Middleground Church Road (number 1217) in Eastman, a small town in the middle of Georgia, and it makes exactly one boat. Rambo Marine, by contrast, is a retail dealer group that sells other manufacturers' new and used inventory from stores in Chattanooga, Tennessee, plus Alabama locations at Smith Lake, Huntsville and Birmingham. Nothing we found links the two.

The Eastman company keeps a very low profile. Its web presence is one page with the boat, a list of what comes standard, a phone number and business hours that run from 8:30 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, Eastern time. Lou Rambo is credited as the site's author, and an archived copy from 2011 named both Lou and Shari Rambo as the people to call, under the slogan Built by a Fisherman for Fishermen. That reads like a husband-and-wife operation, but no record we could check gives a founding year or a named founder, so those fields stay blank.

How a one-boat builder operates

Most fishing boat brands spread their tooling across a dozen sizes. Rambo has stayed with a single hull, which keeps the operation lean. The builder states that its laminate is entirely hand laid, and it puts that claim front and center.

The shop also turns out small fiberglass side products, such as boarding step boxes priced at a few hundred dollars each. That detail says a lot about scale: this is a working fabrication shop that sells what it can make well, not a corporate brand with a marketing department or a model-year launch cycle.

Where the Rambo 27 fits

The Rambo 27 is the entire catalog. It is an open, console-steered offshore fishing hull, unusually skinny for its length, which helps it run economically behind one outboard and slice through short coastal seas while still towing on a normal trailer. The trade-off is less elbow room and more motion at anchor than a wide modern console. Photos from the builder show it hung with a single large four-stroke, yet no rated horsepower, engine package or independent performance test has been published.

Because owners picked from a menu of extras such as a hard top, outriggers and extra tankage, no two used examples are equipped quite alike. Our separate Rambo 27 page covers dimensions, options and pricing history in detail.

Buying and owning without a dealer network

There are no franchised dealers, no regional service centers and almost no brokerage trail, so resale values are hard to benchmark. The price the shop quotes has more than doubled since 2011 and covers the hull rather than a complete rig, so budget separately for an outboard, a trailer and electronics.

The advantage of a tiny builder that is still in business is direct access. A buyer of a secondhand hull can phone Eastman, give the serial number and ask how that particular boat was put together. Beyond that call, a few checks matter most:

  • Match the hull serial number on the transom to the paperwork
  • Confirm the fitted engine does not exceed the plate rating
  • Tap the transom and sole for delamination or wet core
  • Find out which factory extras the first owner ordered
  • Look over console and hard top mounting points for cracks
