Parker builds Carolina-flared fishing boats in Beaufort, North Carolina, with roots in the late 1960s. Its sport cabin pilothouse boats, including the 2320, 2520 XLD and 2820 XLD, are favorites of working captains. Correct Craft bought the company in 2019.

Workboat roots on the Graveyard of the Atlantic

Parker says it started in the late 1960s in Beaufort, North Carolina, a town with more than 200 years of handbuilt boats behind it, near the waters known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Boating magazine dates the first production boat to Linwood Parker's 25-foot Sou'wester open workboat in the early 1970s. For decades the family summed up its approach in four words that president E. Linwood Parker III used on the company website: overbuilt and underpriced.

In 2019 Linwood and Trudy Parker sold the company to Correct Craft. The new owner renamed it Parker Offshore, expanded the Beaufort plant and kept the local workforce. The boats still come from Beaufort and are sold through more than 50 dealer locations across the US.

Why captains buy the sport cabins

A Parker is built for usefulness rather than style. The hulls are modified-Vs with a wide, flared bow, and the sport cabins add an aluminum-framed pilothouse with opening windshields, sliding screened side windows and a lockable door over a simple cabin. That keeps the crew dry in January off the Outer Banks, in New England or in the Pacific Northwest, which is why charter captains, commercial fishermen and agencies buy them.

We cover three sport cabins. The 2320 Sport Cabin is a 23-footer with an 8-foot 6-inch beam that can be towed without permits, a 21-degree hull, 137 gallons of fuel and a single outboard up to 300 hp. Parker built it for more than two decades before the 2420 SC replaced it in 2024. The 2520 XLD Sport Cabin is the 21-degree deep-V version of Parker's 25-footer, as opposed to the flatter 16-degree 2520 XL. It has a 9-foot 6-inch beam, 179 gallons of fuel, a 500 hp rating and a standard electric head. The 2820 XLD Sport Cabin is the 28-foot flagship, with a 135-inch cockpit, 232 gallons of fuel and up to 600 hp on twin Yamahas. Yamaha clocked it at 57.1 mph with twin F300s.

Explorer names and the current range

Under Correct Craft, the 2520 XLD and 2820 XLD got Seakeeper Ride active trim as standard by 2025. For the 2026 model year the sport cabins were renamed the Explorer series, with the 227, 247, 257 and 287 Explorer. The rest of the range is the Coastal family of center consoles from the 180 to the 240 Coastal Elite, and the Fathom offshore consoles.

Resale and what to check on a used Parker

Parkers hold their value well because the hulls last and working boats are always in demand. Engines and records usually decide the price more than the year does, and a well-kept older hull with a recent four-stroke repower is often the best buy. Many used boats have worked as charter or commercial boats, which is fine if the maintenance records exist.

  • Check pilothouse window frames and seals for leaks
  • Sound the cockpit sole and transom for soft spots
  • Inspect bracket mounts and any added tower or second station
  • Confirm whether the boat is a 2520 XL or XLD from the hull ID and capacity plate
  • Inspect the trailer on 8-foot 6-inch boats that live on one
