  • A dense dealer footprint along the northern Gulf

Staying independent in a conglomerate market

Much of the American fishing boat business now belongs to a few large corporations that each own many brands. Blazer is an exception. The company traces its start to the Craft family in 1978, still describes itself as family owned, and builds everything at its factory in Pensacola on the western edge of the Florida Panhandle.

Its slogan, high performance boats for high performance anglers, reflects a customer base that runs from weekend redfish anglers to tournament bass pros. Blazer sells through a dealer network and backs a network of fishing guides and professional anglers.

What the Craft family builds and how

Blazer's construction recipe is simple to describe. Hulls are fully composite, stringers are fiberglass filled with foam, and transoms use high-density foam instead of plywood. Many models come with a jack plate as standard equipment, and livewells tend to be generous.

The company's sales argument is value per foot. Blazer aims to give buyers more usable interior room and genuinely longer hulls than competing boats at a similar price, rather than trying to beat premium brands on finish.

Bay boats then and now

For years the entry point to Blazer's saltwater range was the Blazer Bay 2020, a compact boat marketed as a full 20-footer when some competitors used the same number on shorter hulls. We review it in detail on its own page. It stayed on order through the 2025 model year and is gone from the 2026 catalog.

The current bay lineup opens with the PureBay 2200 and 2400 and continues with the 675 Ultimate Bay, the 2400 and the 2800 Makaira. Bass boats remain the other half of the business.

Used market, promotions and service

Secondhand Blazers are plentiful on the northern Gulf Coast, where dealers are thickest, and they sit at the affordable end of the boats we cover. Blazer regularly runs factory promotions such as its Blazer Bucks rebates, so a discounted new boat can land surprisingly close to a lightly used one. Price both before deciding.

The smaller bay boats were built for bays, rivers and sheltered water, so look for evidence that a boat has been driven hard offshore.

  • Stress cracks at the transom and jack plate bolts.
  • Working livewell pumps and drains.
  • Gelcoat cracking around the console and leaning post.
  • True engine hours from a diagnostic scan.
